Representatives from bars in the capital, where epidemiologists record coronavirus outbreaks, say they are taking all possible safety measures and lack more information from the NVSC about the infections.
“There have been calls from employees about why we lie that people are sick, but we continue to work in complete peace. Now, both vendors and people who booked events, birthdays, say why they did not warn me that they have some kind of fireplace here Although we only heard from the evening news and information posted on Facebook, ”Matas Puodžiūnas, representative of the Sanatorija bar, told BNS.
The adjacent bars Bardakas and Sanatorija, located dozens of meters from the Ministry of Health, were the focus of the National Center for Public Health. On Thursday, epidemiologist Daiva Razmuvienė said that nine new cases of coronavirus had recently been linked to these bars and called on the Vilnius municipality to consider limiting the bars’ opening hours.
M. Puodžiūnas says that “Bardakas” and “Sanatorija” received a request from the National Public Health Center (NVSC) only on Thursday for all employees to be checked for coronavirus, although according to him, the tests were done earlier.
According to him, the NVSC reported that a person with coronavirus visited the Sanitarium on September 25, three weeks ago.
“We invite you to a dialogue, but only today we write; if you wish, we can talk to you through Zoom, because we have a big load. We want to give us the facts, because we do not even understand if there was that fireplace here yesterday, or in the middle September, or at the beginning ”, said a representative of the Sanatorium.
According to him, all the necessary security measures are taken by three popular bars run by the co-owners: Bardakas, Sanatorija Materialistė and the recently opened Conductors.
Bardakas and Sanatorija were closed in early August when a coronavirus was detected in a Bardakas employee. Then, after monitoring nearly 50 workers, no more infections were detected.
Currently, according to M. Puodžiūnas, NVSC does not provide more accurate data on customer infections.
“Now we seem to be a precedent in the city, why all the bars should be closed, even though we have neither the staff nor we have heard of the infected visitors.” Previously reported: a person may have come to you that day, remove all employees. We quarantine everyone for two weeks, replacing them with those who did not work. Now, for the first time, we have heard of those numbers. I don’t know if those people just go here or how. When a salesperson gets sick in Maxima, after all, they don’t advertise Maxima on the fireplace, because we don’t even talk about our employees’ illnesses, ”said M. Puodžiūnas.
Eimantas Daukša, director of the Lumina LT company, which runs Bardakas bar, stated that he had received a call from NVSC on Tuesday and presented a list of employees.
“They mention that there are one or two cases, they are probably talking about the people who visited. Because we do not have a single employee who is sick today, we have communicated with everyone, there are no people who have symptoms, “said E. Daukša.
And we follow everything specified by the Ministry of Health, in addition, we take additional things: we build a thermographic camera, we also measure the temperature of employees, we perform disinfection. We also limit the number of people: at Bardake we count the number of visitors according to the number of seats, around 100. Usually there were several times more, “he said.
Agreed to intensify testing
The Minister of Health, Aurelijus Veryga, proposed on Thursday the municipality of the capital to test COVID-19 to employees of bars, cafes and restaurants if they refuse to shorten their working hours.
“I understand that the city is questioning how reasonable the recommendation is. If there is any doubt for the city, I think that the National Center for Public Health should advise the municipality to test the staff of bars and entertainment venues and see what the situation is there, “the minister told reporters on Seimas on Thursday.
“If the tests show that there are infected or quite a few infected, perhaps that is enough evidence to talk about additional restrictions in this area,” he said.
Vilnius managing director Povilas Poderskis said on Thursday after a meeting with the NVSC that it would be necessary to increase the scope of testing.
“The scope of the test is one of those key things when we can test a lot, we can find a lot and quickly identify certain points of spread of the virus, foci, etc.,” Podersky told reporters.
