The National Public Health Center (NVSC) reported that five new cases related to the outbreak were identified last day at the Palanga Rehabilitation Hospital. There are currently an estimated 16 cases of infection associated with the outbreak.

“That same day we stopped admitting new patients, as of October 14, we barely received the answers to prevent contagion,” said Judita Daratienė, deputy director of Medicine at the Palanga Rehabilitation Hospital, about the situation at the BNS.

“During the routine examination, we found several asymptomatic cases and we immediately took steps to prevent more such cases, suspending the procedures until Monday and examining all patients and staff,” said J. Daratienė.

According to the deputy, staff who had close contact with infected patients are in self-isolation, but said they cannot yet name a specific number because studies are still being conducted to explain the prevalence of the infection.

Mayor: We are ready to make radical decisions

According to the mayor of the tourist complex Šarūnas Vaitkus, they know the situation. A meeting was held on Friday morning.

“That department is closed, with tests done by about 100 employees. We’re driving. There is no great tragedy there ”, commented the mayor about the situation in 15 minutes. He recalled that this hospital depends on the Ministry of Health. And this can decide whether to close the hospital or not.

At present, no new patients are admitted to the Palanga Rehabilitation Hospital and attendance is prohibited. “If we need something from the city, we will make all the most radical decisions to handle the situation,” explained the mayor.

Vilnius Hospital stopped visiting patients

During the last day, four new COVID-19 cases were detected at the Republican Republican Hospital in Vilnius and a total of six related cases were recorded.

“We have stopped visiting patients since Wednesday, only patients with serious conditions, called terminal, can visit. PCR tests were performed for all employees and for all patients in those departments, there are all negative responses from the employees, no new patients showed up either, ”RVUL spokeswoman Asta Bagdonavičienė told BNS.

According to A. Bagdonavičienė, so far there are several employees in self-isolation, so there is no shortage of staff.

“The units have become self-isolating, but there is no staff shortage problem faced by other hospitals, that the wards must be closed,” he said.

The record number of new COVID-19 cases, 281, was registered again last day, two more people died, the Ministry of Health announced on Friday.

The disease was diagnosed in a total of 7,041 people, 3,862 are still ill and 3,035 have recovered.
