Commenting on the epidemiological situation in the country, the Minister of Health did not hide that a single chimney, a large company or several places is enough and that number can increase very steeply.

“Another thing when our epidemiologists catch an offer is the end, our strategy is that many tests are very important to do many tests. So that number dances again and so it rolls and rises to the top.

But the infection really lives in society anyway and I can repeat a hundred times that we all have to be careful because we don’t know who is infected. Some cases cannot be traced. And it seems that people do not hear this news and do not protect themselves, ”said A. Veryga.

The minister clarified that of 255 new cases approved yesterday, only 111 are in Vilnius, but he assured that the situation in the country is under control.

“Hospitals have not yet been overcrowded, except in cases where it is not due to overcrowding, but to infected staff. In Kaunas, only one near-infectious hospital is full. And, as far as I know, we talk with other institutions and organize processes where more patients can be helped. But on the Lithuanian scale, if I’m not mistaken, we have about 40 percent. the so-called Covid reserve beds. This is not an overload of the system ”, commented the minister.

Call for decisions to be made in Vilnius

Commenting on the fact that after recording a record increase in morbidity in Vilnius, the city municipality has not yet taken the stricter restrictions recommended by the National Center for Public Health (NVSC), and the minister called for the situation take it very seriously.

“I hope you listen to me, because I still believe that everyone is interested. Because the Vilnius city government is not an enemy of its inhabitants and must understand that without taking any action, without handling the situation, the medical institution will move and then the city will have other problems, as did Raseiniai.

Then you will have to think about what to do with the patients. It is an option to bring several dozen patients from Raseiniai to Vilnius, but it is not an option to bring several thousand patients from Vilnius to Raseiniai. This city should understand that, ”said A. Veryga in the Seimas.

He stressed that it is now very important to increase testing, specific workplaces, their employees: the same sports clubs, perhaps places of entertainment, catering establishments, treatment, nursing, social care institutions.

“If the tests show they are infected or have a large number of infected, that may be enough evidence to speak of additional restrictions in this area,” he said.

Veryga emphasized that the city already had to assess what was happening in medical institutions, nursing and care facilities, and whether infection control was really good.
