The Euroleague announced on Wednesday that the Zenit St. Petersburg team has recorded two technical defeats.
The Russian club did not play a game against Baskonia de Vitoria and Valencia de Valencia due to the coronavirus, so they lost 0:20 in both cases. It is reported that Zenit did not have 8 healthy players, so they did not fly to Spain.
Zenit now remains in the standings with 2 wins and 2 failures. Technical defeats will do no more harm, as the Euroleague ranks the table only based on wins won and does not count the points awarded for 2 wins and 1 for failures. In this case, no points are awarded for a technical loss.
The Euroleague has yet to decide how to deal with Villerban’s USEL and Athens’ Panathinaikos, which were canceled just a couple of hours before they started.
To lose?!? We know what we’re signing up for this season by sacrificing our own health and being separated from our families (who aren’t with us) to compete. But this is not it. The Euroleague is taking away the credibility of this season with this decision.
