If the list of the Social Democratic Labor Party that he led did not enter the Seimas, and after he himself lost the elections in the single-member constituency, the minister says that he still cannot say anything concrete about his future plans.

“Elections are elections and their results are objective, they must be respected. As for that district, I think (World Lithuanians – BNS), I am very happy that foreign Lithuanians have shown that it is not a coincidence that they have a separate district, ”said L. Linkevičius on Monday on BNS.

He is pleased that the overall turnout in the elections has been several percentage points lower than before and has increased significantly in the Lithuanian constituency abroad.

L. Linkevičius, who topped the list of “social workers”, collected 13.02 percent in the Lithuanian district of the world. and he was third, and in the second round of the Seimas elections the leader of the Freedom Party Aušrinė Armonaitė and the conservative candidate Dalia Asanavičiūtė will compete here.

“I hope that the two remaining candidates, Dalia and Aušrinė, can perfectly represent the interests of foreign Lithuanians,” said L. Linkevičius.

Leaders of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Labor Party, who discussed the election results on Monday, said it would be difficult to find a better foreign minister than L. Linkevičius. According to the vice president of the party, Juozas Bernatonis, it would be beneficial for Lithuania to continue holding these positions.

L. Linkevičius himself says he will work in his current position “as long as there is an opportunity and a need,” but has not yet revealed what other career opportunities he is considering.

“We will somehow try to benefit Lithuania, wherever it is, in what position,” he said.

However, L. Linkevičius doubted that he would have the opportunity to continue the Minister’s work.

“I don’t know if there will be such opportunities, let’s start, let’s be open, the situation keeps changing. How much will change will be seen when the electoral process is completed and what the options will be. It would be too early to decide,” he said.

The minister also said he had no plans to join the Social Workers Party, and said he had no further political plans yet.

“I don’t really have any commitments right now and I don’t really have any plans right now, and it’s hard for me to say anything more specific now,” he said.

L. Linkevičius is serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs for a second term.
