Linkevičius could remain minister of foreign affairs or president of the party.

“I think it would be beneficial to Lithuania if the Minister of Foreign Affairs remained the same. More so because he is not a partygoer. He cannot be attributed to us and we do not attribute it to ourselves. He is simply a professional,” said Juozas Bernatonis, a “social worker”, at a conference held in the Palace of the Rulers to discuss the elections.

According to him, L. Linkevičius, who lost the elections in the single-member world constituency, is simply the best candidate for the post of chancellor that the new ruling majority and the president can find.

“It will be difficult to find a better candidate like Linas Lenkevičius for the new majority with the president,” Bernatonis said.

For his part, the leader of the “social workers” Gediminas Kirkilas stated that L. Linkevičius has not yet decided on his future.

“Linas Linkevičius has not yet decided on his political future. And the fact that he is foreign minister for the second term is a very high value,” he said, stressing that he thought the current head of Lithuanian diplomacy would be a good candidate to take his place in the leadership of the “Party of Social Workers”.

“I think Linas Linkevičius is really a very serious candidate, if he joins the party. He is not yet a member of the party,” said G. Kirkilas.

The leaders of the “Social Workers” did not specifically answer whether L. Linkevičius, who had not been elected to the new Seimas, could run for any vacant ambassadorial position.

ELTA recalls that the “social workers” party failed to win 5% in the Seimas elections. election posters and did not enter parliament. L. Linkevičius unsuccessfully nominated his candidacy in the Lithuanian single-member constituency of the world. According to the Central Electoral Commission, he was third.
