Before the quarantine, the Raseinians broke into stores: they tried to buy for two weeks

After learning of the quarantine, the locals rushed to the shops to buy not only food but also toilet paper. At that time, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis warned the population to test as soon as possible; otherwise, Raseiniai will face the fate of Nemenčinė and its complete closure.

Dajana Bacevičienė, a Kelmė district resident infected with coronavirus, was treated for Covid-19 infection at Šiauliai Republican Hospital. But after a while, the woman asked home why she was complaining about poor and cold food. The woman claims that the unpleasant symptoms of the coronavirus have severely depleted her.

“I am very tired from coughing, weak, I cannot perform activities, not even mental or physical. I’m limited and I don’t have the strength anyway, “said D. Bacevičienė.

The Šiauliai Republican Hospital assures that the situation is really tense due to the coronavirus. The hospital is currently treating 36 coronavirus patients. And in the tuberculosis and lung disease clinic, there were many problems with the coronavirus patients who set up the facilities due to both the flow of patients and the food.

“We really didn’t fit in when the installation took place, we had to solve the problem of patient access to the safe and divide the staff into clean and dirty areas,” said Sigita Klimavičienė, the hospital’s managing director of nursing.

Rushed to the stores

And in Raseiniai, many residents did not believe in the threat of the virus, they did not study, now the morbidity of two weeks in this city per 100 thousand inhabitants reaches more than 1,100 cases. Therefore, life here has fundamentally changed since Friday. The government approved two weeks of local quarantine.

“The officers will monitor, they will patrol. But that does not mean that it is not possible to get in and out. They will just have to take a more active interest in where people are moving and warn them, reminding them not to drive unnecessarily. But this does not mean that they the movement stops ”, assured the Minister of Health, Aurelijus Veryga.

And here in the Raseiniai store, protective masks are already distributed to residents. People are preparing for quarantine, they are in a rush to bring food lists to stores, they buy not only food, but also hygiene items and toilet paper.

“We are preparing not to come for a long time, it will be closed for two weeks, we buy food, puppy food and kittens so that we don’t go here anymore,” said a Raseiniai resident.

“The family gave me a very large list, so the request was good,” said another.

“It just came to our knowledge then. She ignores, doesn’t wear masks, swarms, doesn’t imagine there’s another flu here,” complained a Raseini resident.

“Obviously it’s not fun, we try to go more to Skaudvilė, Tauragė, here in Raseiniai I’m more restless,” feared the other.

Testing slowly

Although residents drove to the stores after learning of the quarantine, they are still in no rush to test for coronavirus.

Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis is also unhappy with this situation. After the Government meeting, the Prime Minister asked the residents of Raseiniai to test for coronavirus and warned that by avoiding Raseiniai tests, the Nemenčinė variant, complete closure, would be threatened.

“Detection is slow and there is no way to determine if people are infected or not. In this case, there will be nothing left but to make a variant of Nemenčinė. We cannot allow sick people to spread the infection asymptomatically not only in the Raseiniai territory, but also throughout the country, ”said Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis.

“And will the closure of the city put them to the test? I do not think so. Definitely not, it is not as necessary to solve the problem to this day. I think the closure will not put people to the test, ”said Andrius Bautronis, the mayor of the Raseiniai district, outraged by the Prime Minister.

Special situation in the city

The quarantine regime in Raseiniai will be introduced from midnight on Friday and will last until the end of October 23. Specialists from the National Center for Public Health emphasize that it will be mandatory to wear protective masks both indoors and outdoors in Raseiniai.

Residents will be able to visit public places, but no more than two, with the exception of family members. In public places, a distance of at least two meters between groups of people will also be required. Events and meetings are prohibited, work is organized differently.

“In all municipal institutions and companies, work is organized only remotely. And such work organization is also recommended for the private sector, only such measures can be effective, ”said Rolanda Lingienė, Director of the NVSC Vilnius Department.

Currently, Covid-19 infection is detected in every 515 populations tested in Raseiniai out of 1715 coronavirus tests. Second only to Raseiniai in terms of morbidity is the district of Radviliškis. The Health Minister says it is too early to talk about the local quarantine in Radviliškis.

“It may happen that something like Raseiniai is needed, but we believe that Raseiniai is an exceptional city. With twice the morbidity than Radviliškis,” noted A. Veryga.

Yesterday a total of 117 new cases of coronavirus were detected in Lithuania, and two more deaths were recorded: 101 people have already died from coronavirus in the country. During yesterday, most cases of coronavirus were detected in Kaunas county – up to 56, in Vilnius – 27, in Šiauliai – 13, in Tauragė – 9.
