Small entrepreneurs in Raseiniai: we have been in quarantine for about three weeks

“We have been in quarantine for about three weeks, there are no buyers. We worked, businesses did not close as during the first quarantine. But it’s really not who to work with, there are no people, people no longer come. Some of them are sick, others are afraid to sit at home, not walk anywhere. There is a large market in Raseiniai, and if one or two people pass through it a day, this is it. There is no trade anymore and there is a large platoon of merchants.

The quarantine, now officially assigned to the municipality, could have been announced earlier. As we speak for ourselves and as the mayor spoke, if there were quarantine, maybe small businesses would somehow come out to support. And now, without the introduction of quarantine, they all died during those three weeks, “said Eltai, chair of the Raseiniai department.

According to her, Raseiniai merchants suffer from a lack of customers and small businesses do not receive financial support, at least for the moment.

“We are not receiving any support yet. We talk to the employers that it is wrong until the quarantine is announced because we did not receive any support. During the first quarantine we received 257 euros (support – ELTA), we did not have to pay rent, so the small entrepreneurs survived, ”he said.

D. Lukauskienė also assured that the government had previously been asked to introduce a quarantine regime in Raseiniai, as it was expected that it would receive support for entrepreneurs who were experiencing difficulties.

“I heard that the mayor said that if the government announces the quarantine, then maybe they will take it into account and maybe support it (small businessmen – ELTA). (…) Although it was requested a couple of weeks ago, the Government did not agree. So now we hope that if we have to close, we can get some support, “he told Eltai.

“Because now, for the last three weeks, we’re just drooling. And the mayor, like I said, hinted that maybe the government will allocate some funds to support the business, or maybe even the district government will allocate them, maybe there will be some fund to support small businesses. If they can do it, if they want or if the law will allow it (not yet clear – ELTA). But we will go everywhere because people have to pay a lot for rent, for premises. When The exchange was made, everything was fine, and when it is not, it is not where it comes from (ELTA funds are needed) ”, added D. Lukauskienė.

The government on Wednesday approved the introduction of a two-week quarantine regime in Raseiniai, which has become the focus of the coronavirus. The quarantine in Raseiniai will begin on Friday and last until October 23 inclusive.

Public events and gatherings are prohibited, except for gatherings due to the Seimas elections taking place in the country. Catering establishments, restaurants, cafes, bars, nightclubs and other entertainment venues, casinos will be open from 8 am to midnight.

The points of sale may operate if the store area per customer is not less than 10 square meters.
