Transport and Communications Minister Jaroslavas Narkevičius, Trakai District Mayor Edita Rudelienė, the heads of the Lithuanian Highway Administration (LAKD) and the Lithuanian Railways will participate in the construction commencement ceremony, announced the municipality of the district.
The Ministry of Transport has previously announced that the reconstruction of the crossing will improve traffic conditions in the city, which the railway divides into two parts. Due to the heavy train traffic at the crossing, traffic jams occur constantly.
The project will be carried out by the Vilnius construction company Tilsta and the works are expected to be completed in one year.
The project is funded by the Road Maintenance and Development Program (RDP) and investments from the European Union (EU).

Representatives from the Transport Ministry said at the inauguration that this will improve communication in the city.
According to Remigijus Lipkevičius, head of the Directorate of Roads, the implementation of the project will solve the problem when a long queue of cars was formed waiting at the junction.
“Thousands of people crossing this crossing in trains and cars every day will make it much safer,” said Mantas Bartuška, director of Lithuanian Railways.
According to him, the crossing was closed even at 11 o’clock. per day. After reconstruction, the railroad and the highway will no longer cross.
