People are already choosing a new Seimas: they are waiting in queues to wait as long as they need

The morning is still dawning and there is already a line at the polling station on Lukiškės square in the capital. Monday was the first of four days of early voting. And to divide the flow of people, you can cast your vote in the capital in four different places. And if the influx of people in the morning still does not arrive, the line of those who were waiting around 11 in the morning has already wandered throughout the square. About a hundred voters.

People say they are determined to wait as long as it takes. And you may need a constant time:

“Once a year, for the next 4 years, waiting is a pleasure. Even in such beautiful weather.”

Many have memorized calls to bring the three most important items: an ID card, a face mask, and your own pen to prevent viruses from spreading through your hands:

“Yes, I have. ID here. The mask too.”

Everyone should sanitize their hands when entering the room. Others ask for one more step: think carefully about what you are voting for:

“I appeal to everyone: please, please, make the right decisions.”

According to the commission members, there were no voting irregularities on Monday.

“Whoever is waiting in line, is upset, is older, especially at an older age, it means dissatisfaction. What are you going to do? ”Says Vytenis Keršys, Vice President of the Electoral Commission.

Instead, it can be pinned to the side. There cannot be as much agitation during early voting as on Election Day 50 meters from the voting station. However, both the Polish election campaigns and the posters of the peasant members are displayed right next to Lukiškės square.

“We will verify that information and it is possible that violations will be recorded. Then the problem of administrative responsibility can be solved,” says Laura Matjošaitytė, president of the CEC.

However, there are places where the activities of the members of the electoral commission are much less than in Lukiškės square. The view at the Health and Sports Center at sunrise is quite different. There are no queues, the voting is abundant.

It is not known if the dilapidated, all-seeing building has seen the election, but commissioners working here also see local advantages.

“I think this is the safest place to vote in Vilnius, because there is a huge space, many booths, the distances are great, so come to Saulėtekio at 26,” says Nerija Stasiulienė, vice president of the Election Commission.

And the usual polling place is the municipality. Without tails. Some are very afraid of the coronavirus, wear and tear and gloves:

“As an old man, I am afraid of that infection. I am not afraid of death, but I do not want to die from that disease. I am safe. “

Why vote today instead of Sunday? People say there is nothing to look forward to:

“Civic duty must be fulfilled as soon as possible.”

Employees regulate voter flows, there are no major misunderstandings and no problems.

“There are mischievous people who don’t follow the right path, but people may just not know that they are afraid to walk through those buildings. Because there is an entrance, another exit, ”said Eugenija Ibianskienė, president of the Šeškinė-Šnipiškės district.

And the newlyweds or those who come to receive them usually meet at the Kaunas City Hall. But today, the biggest celebration is not the wedding, but the choice. Voters sprayed with disinfectant at the entrance travel to the polls on the closed side of the corridor:

“It just came to our knowledge then. I understood everything there was.”

“It’s a freer day like this, Monday, but I chose it.”

“The weekend can be spent differently, I have different plans.”

It is true that for the disabled it is difficult to get here and they would also like to have more light in the cabins.

“Darkness, darkness in taxis. A good cabin adapted for the disabled, but there is no light, ”says Jolanta Beresnevičienė, president of the Union of the Disabled.

Kaunas members of the commission also hoped for increased voter turnout. At 2pm, only about 300 people showed up here.

“It just came to our attention then. And I don’t dare to predict what it will be like in the next three days, ”says Juozas Bukelis, president of the Aleksotas-Vilijampolė district.

It is true that Kaunas residents have another option: to travel to the Cultural Center at the polls. And the residents of Vilkaviškis attract elected members of the Seimas to the municipality, as usual. Just unusually hygienic.

Some voters are significantly intimidated by the virus. But, she says, duty screams.

The president of the Central Electoral Commission has not yet begun to assess whether more people are going to vote today than usual in early voting. However, no major problems have been identified.

“It just came to our notice then. Voters go, keep a safe distance, everyone wears personal protective equipment covering their nose and mouth. Virtually everyone brings their own writing instrument; it really responds to our recommendations,” says L. Matjošaitytė.

Of course, for the voters themselves, whether in Vilnius or Vilkaviškis, it is more important what the government elections will bring:

“It just came to our knowledge then. Again, the farmers themselves distributed 200 euros each to the retirees. And I got it and donated those 200. Whoever needs them, I live so well.”

“I read Hauf as a child, I say I don’t think so. Maybe something like that, let’s see what we choose.”

“According to Christian values. There are several parties, I chose one “.

“I hope it’s better than now. That’s what elections are for.”

By the way, 28 thousand people in self-isolation still do not reflect their determination to vote. Of these, just over two have registered to vote so far. The Central Election Commission urges you to hurry to register – only on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will Covid-19 patients receive members of the electoral commission dressed in suits who knock on the door.

In total, almost 2.5 million people have the right to vote in these Seimas elections. compatriots.
