The negligence of the Vilnius Municipality continues to sow ignorance in the basketball community. The capital’s basketball league (“GEALAN-SKL”), which brings together up to 120 teams and 2,000 basketball fans, cannot yet plan the start of the season, because the teams do not know when and if they will be able to rent a room , type “supportkl.lt”.
Vaidas Indriliūnas, director of the capital’s basketball league, says he has never seen such a big mess due to gym rentals.
“I have not come across such a mess, although I have been working in amateur basketball for 10 years. The very idea of Active Vilnius is really very good. This allows basketball lovers to comfortably reserve hallways and increases transparency. If you have the desire, the opportunities and the money, you can rent any room in Vilnius and get the best moments. However, the implementation of the project was very hasty and unprepared. This has led to the Vilnius basketball fans and the students of the basketball school to a big enough chaos, Indriliūnas points out. – I am not only the leader of the league, I am also the team. We, like all teams, want to play in the room closest to home. We rent such a room for 15 years, but we didn’t get it this year, why?
Let’s start with the fact that it was unclear when the system would be activated. It has been officially announced that basketball fans will be able to reserve the rooms from October 1. However, so far no hours, room selection or other information has been provided. School basketball fans have been informed that the system will launch on October 1. 09:00 in the morning. I didn’t find free time to log in at the time, they were all reserved. We later learned that some of the hallways in the school could be reserved after midnight. We finally made it to the hall at 11:00 pm one of the schools offered various schedules. “
The European champion, who is now defending Kšštofas Lavrinovičius, who is now defending the Sports House Club honor in the SKL championship, also expressed his position on this issue: “I see that there are many dissatisfied people. Everything has been fine for so many years and now a bit of chaos has started. Sure, I’m not going to delve into the nuances, but I really want everyone to be treated equally and for everything to be done fairly. The most important thing is not to hurt the children. The fans don’t know yet where and when we will play. Many organizations are really not happy with what is happening. I hope the municipality talks to everyone and can reach a compromise. “
SKL manager Indriliūnas expressed concern about the amateur league season, which will start later this year like never before: “If the system was announced like this, it was prepared for quite some time, why is there no clarity? The amateur league season traditionally begins in the first half of October. Now the situation is such that the teams only as of October 1. I could find out if I would get any hallways. It is clear that the SKL season will now start much later, which is concerning, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the knowledge that the season may need to be suspended in certain sections. “
Indriliūnas presented one of the possible options on how the Active Vilnius system should work, which is causing growing waves of dissatisfaction:
“I think that all the time from 7:30 pm we can call them commercials because they are inconvenient for the students of the basketball school. So why was it not possible as of September 1? allow hallways to be reserved for both basketball lovers and basketball schools? Fans could have claimed only commercial times, and all the rest could be shared by ERM and SKM schools. Yes after October 1. there would have been free corridors, all could have requested them in the general order, – points out the representative of amateur basketball. – I know that various teams simply did not get the hall, so they will not be able to participate in the championship at all or they will have to go to the more remote areas of Vilnius.
The events of the last few weeks are a good example of the failures and lack of preparation of the system. I would like the entire Vilnius basketball community to have equal rights, to have clarity and to be able to plan their training and match schedule from September. To postpone everything until October and introduce such destruction … Active Vilnius developers should very carefully analyze the current situation and make decisions so that no one is harmed. “
Previously, both basketball schools operating in Vilnius expressed dissatisfaction with the Active Vilnius platform.
