Not number, but exclusivity
Today in the collection of Klaipeda – about 1.5 thousand. exhibits and, of course, this number is incomplete.
When looking at the quarks that have settled in a woman’s house, the eyes are dazzled not only by their abundance, but also by the variety of sizes, colors, shapes, materiality, not forgetting the origin of each item in the hands of the collector , its history, adventures or destiny.
And it all started in 1993 with a craft donated by a neighbor: a crocheted frog with a hook.
I have set myself the goal of collecting frogs from around the world and from all the materials that are possible to make them.
“At first, I was happy with everything I received because there weren’t many options at the time,” recalls the woman.
As the interlocutor admits, with the gradual enrichment of the collection each year, the desire arose to hunt more exceptional and interesting specimens.
“I don’t collect numbers, but singularity,” says R. Anusienė. “I have set myself the goal of collecting frogs from around the world and from all the materials from which it is possible to make them.”
According to the collector, many of the items are now made in China, so if you manage to hunt down or get a gift display from the country where it is still made, it can already be called a double hit.
Luxury with diamond eyes
Currently, the Klaipėda collection consists of frogs and frogs made in or from more than 50 countries, from Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal to Cambodia, Peru, Uruguay.
Probably most of the exhibits traveled from various trips, were viewed and purchased at various shopping venues in Lithuania or online; According to the interlocutor, in recent years, online auctions have been especially useful in the search for more exclusive items.
Society: The collection of fifteen hundred exhibited objects is hardly found on the shelves of the houses.
Klaipėda’s passion is also fed by her friends, family, who know that the collector does not have a sweeter gift than another frog.
For example, a limited edition Chinese porcelain handcrafted figurine that made R. Anusienė happy on the occasion of its 50th anniversary once cost up to 400 LTL.
At the time, exclusive and extremely luxurious exhibits were valued in amounts of no more than triple digits and not even four digits.
As one of the examples, the collector named the diamond-eyed Fabergé frog – its price reached more than 60 thousand. Dollars
“These items are usually only sold at large auctions,” explains the frog collector.
It is not the only hobby
The interlocutor does not deny: not necessarily what is expensive in monetary terms is the most valuable and expensive in emotional terms.
She calls herself the most beloved in 1998. a frog sculpture brought by a man from the Czech Republic, made from the root of a parasitic tree.
This exhibition fascinates a woman not only because of its uniqueness, art: the first frog donated by her husband and the 25th frog in the entire collection became a tacit approval of the wife’s passion for collecting.
According to the interlocutor, frogs received from both friends and relatives are also something special, perhaps because they are given to the hearts of loved ones.
“It would probably be hard to believe, but over the years there have been almost no recurrences among donated frogs,” says the collector.
A woman who works as an accountant not only scrupulously catalogs the exhibits available, but also prepares their descriptions. According to the interlocutor, the search for this information became for her a treasure trove of interesting and unexpected facts.
I think we have to delve into something. Especially since it’s an endless hobby, of course, if you don’t wake up alone.
In addition to frogs, Klaipeda residents also collect euro coins; They say they want to collect everything that the EU countries have emitted.
The woman also names her most original hobbies: she sews commemorative souvenir details to decorate champagne bottles and makes Venetian carnival masks.
Secret love – owls
Today, it would be difficult for Klaipėda residents to say why frogs attracted their attention almost three decades ago.
On the other hand, in many countries, including Lithuania, it is quite a popular collector’s item: it was in Klaipeda earlier this month that the association that brought together the frog collectors of our country organized its ninth congress.
“In Russia, for example, the frogs are collected by the director of the Hermitage”, shares the interlocutor.
It is true that the collector herself admits that she overlooks everyday household items or soft toys, because it is not interesting, she argues.
“If I saw bedding with frog motifs, that alone would not buy such bedding,” says the interlocutor. “Stamps, money or postcards with frogs, yes, I collect those things, but I do not count them as collections.”
The interviewee wonders if she deliberately chose the collectible today, it would probably be an owl. “This bird is something like that to me,” Klaipeda smiles.
According to the collector, serious dedication to another collection is not just an expensive pleasure.
“I think it is necessary to delve into one thing. Especially since it is an endless hobby, of course, if you don’t wake up.
