Yelena Leuchenko, one of the most famous Belarusian basketball players, who played in Lithuania for two years, found herself behind bars.

She was arrested for participating in protests against Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. The former basketball player fell into the hands of Minsk airport officials when he wanted to travel abroad for planned treatment and rehabilitation.

According to Belarusian journalist Hanna Liubakova, Leuchenko will have to spend 15 days behind bars.

Belarusian handball club Vityaz Leon has refused to play today’s match due to the arrest of the former basketball player.

At the beginning of her career, in 2006-2008, the 37-year-old played for the Vilnius Teo team.

The basketball player also played for the Belarusian national team and won the bronze medal at the European Championship in 2007, and was recognized as the best midfielder at the 2010 World Championship.

Leuchenko played in the WNBA and reached the final, competing twice in the Olympics.
