Recent developments

According to the draft resolution, the conditions are modified “in order to create the conditions to facilitate the entry of highly qualified employees, teachers and researchers.”

“Their applications for temporary residence permits are processed remotely, and if a positive decision is made, the original documents and biometric data must be submitted,” the draft resolution indicates.

It is also proposed to waive the requirement that foreigners from affected countries have no more than 72 hours notice. a coronavirus test prior to arrival and a negative response.

“This proposal is made because there is a problem of reliability / falsification of these tests in practice, so there are doubts about the effectiveness of this requirement. This change is also relevant in the context of assistance to the Republic of Belarus: the test is also necessary to enter from the Republic of Belarus, and in this country the test is currently difficult (a couple of weeks before).

Furthermore, the change in containment rules has made the testing requirement meaningless, as testing has been linked to the application or shortening of isolation exemptions (testing is mandatory in these cases). Other relevant aspects of the tests will be regulated in the isolation rules ”, the document reads.

Interior Minister Rita Tamašunienė, who presented the issue at the government meeting, assured that those who come to Lithuania for humanitarian purposes are warned about the necessary evidence.

“I want to assure you that those coming to Lithuania for humanitarian purposes are warned about self-isolation and the possibility of testing in Lithuania. The Border Guard Service will deal with visitors who have arrived and have applied for political asylum,” said the Wednesday the minister.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Sports offers non-formal education for children and adults, vocational training, higher education and general part-time distance education.

However, in the opinion of the Ministry of Health, current legislation allows educational institutions to regulate the educational process through their orders to the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports. Therefore, this proposal was not included.
