“COVID-19 presents new challenges every day. In the morning, I discovered that my research is also positive, “the mayor told Facebook.

He said that he had been given a prophylactic test before, at which point he had not been diagnosed with the infection.

The mayor stated that he would work in isolation.

E. Jonyla also informed BNS about the coronavirus detected in him.

“Currently I am isolated at home, there are deputies working, both my deputy, who did not pass the test yesterday, and the deputy mayor has not passed,” said the head of the administration.

Both he and the mayor say they have no symptoms of the disease.

According to E. Jonyla, most of the approximately 100 municipal administration employees currently work remotely, and about 15 employees are isolated due to close contacts, including him and the mayor.

Due to this situation, a remote meeting of the Raseiniai Emergency Commission is taking place at noon, which has been delayed a couple of hours to receive the latest information on the spread of the infection from the National Center for Public Health ( NVSC).

“It will be clear from the data: if the number of cases increases, we will not be able to do without national intervention,” he said.

E. Jonyla suspects that the infection in the municipality may have spread from an employee when last week, Thursday, in preparation for the unveiling of a monument to the partisans in Kryžkalnis, he and other employees were in a car.

On Thursday, the NVSC announced that 15 cases of infection were linked to the Raseiniai municipality administration and a total of 112 cases had been identified in the municipality.

Due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus, the Raseiniai District Municipality’s Emergency Situations Commission will discuss on Friday whether to propose to the government the introduction of local quarantine.
