The wrecked Mercedes-Benz GL 350 was dropped off at the General Assistance Center the eve of April 1 on Belmont Street.

A witness to the incident said he saw the traffic accident and a bloodied driver getting out of the car.

“I spoke to the driver, asked him if he needed help or if he was drunk. He nodded his head and confirmed it, “the witness told police.

He didn’t even know he was reporting an accident caused by a famous businessman. Only later, reading old articles and seeing a photo of A. Mišeikis, did he realize that he was behind the wheel.

Regretted his behavior

A.Mišeikis, who had escaped from the scene of the accident, categorically denied driving drunk. Law enforcement has not been able to prove this fact. Belmont’s owner was not found after the accident.

That same night, the agents knocked on the door of the businessman’s house, but no one opened it.

Therefore, protocols were developed only for the transfer and the scene of the incident and for driving without rights.

A. Mišeikis himself sent his explanations to the police by email a week after the event.

Here he taught that he was sitting behind the wheel when he received a call about the health of the affected relative.

“Knowing that the universal quarantine had been announced in Lithuania due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and realizing that the necessary help would not be provided to a loved one, I ran to the yard, got in the car and ran out, scared, not thinking about anything, “said A. Mišeikis.

He noted that although he did not have a driver’s license, for safety reasons, companies keep the car in the backyard of his house.

According to the businessman, a deer ran in a hurry to the Belmonto street road. In an effort to avoid a collision, he turned the wheel, drove to the curb, and climbed a tree.

“I was in shock, I was bleeding a lot, I needed urgent medical help, so I rushed to get the Belmont staff to help me,” he said.

He explained that he had lost a lot of blood, he felt bad, however he returned to the place a couple of hours later, but he could no longer find a car or officers.

“Without expecting anything, I went to the clinic for professional help,” he said.

The man explained that he regretted the incident, but that everything happened unintentionally and he immediately compensated for the damage caused.

According to the court, there is no evidence that the story told by A. Mišeikis is beyond reality.

“A. Mišeikis was aware of his duty to remain at the scene of the traffic accident, but he deliberately chose a variant of behavior that violated the requirements of legal acts: he left the place of the traffic accident,” said the judge examining the Ingrida Mikužytė case.

When imposing the sanction, it was pointed out that in the last 5 years the businessman has been sanctioned 5 times for infractions of the Traffic Regulations.

After evaluating all the material collected, the court decided to fine A. Mišeikis with a fine of 1,000 euros and revoke his driving license for one year.

I’ve had problems before

In 2011 in the same Belmonto street. A.Mišeikis, who was driving an SUV in the Land Rover Range Rover, collided with another car and then exited the accident.

Later, law enforcement agencies announced a public search for the refugee and distributed photos of the refugee.

The judge who examined A. Mišeikis’s case at that time was strict: he sentenced the businessman to 20 days in prison.

The name of A. Mišeikis was also mentioned in the criminal case of the so-called “tax inspection” group.

The Belmont owner was injured this time: the gang members planned to kidnap him, take property from him, and possibly even kill him.

A. Mišeikis, who was driving a car, was allegedly stopped by bandits disguised as policemen, taken to a pre-arranged location and martyred until he had rewritten all his properties for them.

However, the crime was prevented by forensic scientists in the capital watching the gang members.
