The ATP 1000 Series “International BNL d’Italia” men’s tennis tournament, which brought together almost the entire elite of the sport, ended in Rome, Italy.
Monday in the final of the Serbian unit competition Novak Djokovic (ATP-1) after 1 hour 54 minutes of fighting 7: 5, 6: 3 defeated the Argentine Diego Schwartzmaną (ATP-15). This was already the fifth Serbian victory against the Argentine of the equally possible ones.
The Argentine started fantastically, winning two consecutive series of rivals and maintaining a 3-0 victory. Then N. Djokovičius “woke up”. The Serb responded with an impulse and regained his balance. In the ninth game, the Argentine was able to regain the initiative, but failed to achieve the “breaking point.” N. Djokovičius almost finished the set in the tenth game, when he was above the winning point. Schwartzman then held out, but broke in the twelfth game, losing his series of legends.
At the beginning of the second set, the tennis players exchanged the opponent’s winning series of passes. In the fifth game, the Argentine broke away 40:15, but failed to make two “break points.” Subsequently, the equal fight continued until the eighth game, when N. Djokovičius “dry” won the opponent’s passing series and gained a victorious advantage.
The Serbian has already won the 81st ATP World Tour units tournament in his career. He won the main trophy, 1000 ATP unit rating points and 205.2 thousand. euros.
N. Djokovičius became the participant with the most titles in all ATP 1000 unit tournaments (“Masters”). He won a tournament of this rank for the 36th time and surpassed the Spanish Rafaelį Nadalį (35). Third on the list – Switzerland Roger Federer (28).
On Monday, the Serbian started week 28 as the leader in the ATP unit rankings and surpassed the American Pete sampras (286). Now he was left alone with Federer (310).
