“The department has not received any official information from our eastern neighbors indicating what day and what process the Astravo nuclear power plant would start. As we have seen from the public space, physical testing of the power plant has been going on for two months. In our opinion, the shortcomings of the process testing itself should be addressed.

We don’t have that information about the periodicity and the deficiencies, ”M. Kanapickas told LRT radio.

According to him, it should have been about two weeks after the incident at the Astravas nuclear power plant, that this would pose a significant threat to the life or health of all Lithuanians.

“If we analyze the most dangerous scenario established for today, evaluating the wind direction, the height and the size of the contamination, it is not such a tragic situation in Lithuania that a background dose of one or two days would be so high that it would have a great impact on human life and health throughout Lithuania. At least, in my opinion, it would be about two weeks, “said M. Kanapickas.

Nuclear fuel loading into the Unit 1 reactor at the Astrava nuclear power plant has already started. The energy commissioning of the Astrava nuclear power plant and its connection to the Belarusian electricity system is scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year.
