“The disease has been diagnosed in seven employees and one patient,” said Vaidas Smalinskas, director of the hospital.

According to him, six people infected with the coronavirus are employees of the Department of Nursing and Supportive Treatment, one – of the Department of Admission and Emergencies.

The infection was confirmed in three people on Tuesday and five on Wednesday.

According to V. Smalinskas, the disease was first diagnosed by a specialist from the nursing staff and the patient felt the symptoms of the disease.

“Currently, research is being carried out for all hospital staff and patients. (…) We look forward to the research responses of the patients of the Department of Nursing and Supportive Treatment, the most important thing for us here, because their risk is the highest, ”she said.

The hospital director said he did not yet have precise data on how many staff members and patients may have had a high-risk exposure.

According to the National Center for Public Health (NVSC), the first two cases were included in the case statistics released Wednesday, but were not linked: “information revised later.”

Another case, established for a doctor at Radviliškis Hospital on Tuesday, was confirmed by epidemiologists on Wednesday and will be included in the statistics, which we will publish on Thursday. NVSC also received positive results from five tests performed on employees on Wednesday. People have been informed, but the epidemiological diagnosis is still being carried out, ”said Justina Petravičienė, representative of the NVSC.

“Public health professionals are unlikely to complete epidemiological studies today, so cases may not be included in the statistics tomorrow. They will be included when epidemiological studies are fully completed,” he added.

According to the NVSC, 30 staff members and about 40 patients from the Nursing Department may have had contact with infected colleagues and five members of the Admissions Department staff.
