President Gitanas Nausėda expressed his sincere condolences on the death of Arnold Piročkin, professor, licensed doctor of science and former professor at Vilnius University.

According to the president, Lithuania has lost a prominent personality in the humanitarian world: a well-known philologist, researcher of the Lithuanian language and its history and culture, translator, editor, promoter and updater of Lithuanian studies. Thanks to Professor A. Piročkin, we get to know better the lives, works and works of Jonas Jablonskis, Adam Mickiewicz and other Lithuanian cultural figures. The professor also paid tribute to his homeland, describing with great love Jurbarkas and its surroundings in published chronicles.

During a difficult hour, the President wished strength to Professor Piročkin’s family, friends, scientific community, and everyone who had met this extraordinary personality.

A. Piročkin was born in 1931. February 25 In Pašventis, Jurbarkas district. 1949 graduated from Šilutė Gymnasium in 1955. – Vilnius University, worked as a teacher. 1963-1991 was a lecturer and associate professor in the Department of Lithuanian Language, 1991-1993. – Professor of the Department of Lithuanian Studies.

The professor studied the life and work of famous Lithuanian linguists, historians and writers. The habilitation work “The Importance of the Works of Jonas Jablonskis for the Development of Common Language” was prepared.

1991 A. Piročkin compiled the book “J. Jablonski. Articles and Letters “, he wrote articles on the occasion of his 140th birthday, examined the connections between J. Jablonskis and Vaižgantas. He gave lectures on Adam Mickiewicz, in 1995 he wrote a very valuable monograph” Nine Years of Adam Mickiewicz “, also published in Poland. Relations with Lithuania The names and works of Martynas Mažvydas, Mikalojus Daukša, Kristijonas Donelaitis, Jonas Basanavičius were famous.

He has published newspaper articles on various topics in Lithuanian history, culture, literature and politics. 1981 prepared a collection of works by J. Zejeris “Lithuanian Gods”.

The scholar’s articles were regularly published in “Literature and Art”, “Native Word”, “Voruta” and other magazines and newspapers.
