September 8 A new name was announced for two large Kaunas hospitals, which will now function as a medical institution: the Kaunas Hospital of the Lithuanian Health Sciences University (LSMU). Patients will only benefit from this, both in terms of the expanded range of personal healthcare services and in terms of quality, which now has more potential to grow.

An advanced model has been installed

A few years ago, five large polyclinics merged into a polyclinic in the city of Kaunas, and this model is working successfully. Now Kaunas will have a joint hospital.

Minister of Health prof. Aurelijus Veryga named Kaunas the first large city in the country, where not only primary but also hospital medical care was systematically organized.

This will allow Kaunas residents to choose complex healthcare and treatment services without unnecessary distractions or puzzles as to which medical institution to turn to. Instead of unprofitable competition, information, specialists will be exchanged, the joint and coordinated work of city doctors will run smoothly.

LSMU Kaunas Hospital patients will not experience any inconvenience or confusion, patients at the former Kaunas Clinical and Republican Kaunas Hospitals will receive the same services at regular addresses for both inpatients and polyclinics. Plans are being drawn up to further optimize and coordinate the institution’s activities.

Kaunas Clinical Hospital’s unique contribution to the LSMU Kaunas Hospital service package is the treatment of infectious, skin and venereal diseases, trauma and orthopedics, geriatrics, intensive care and resuscitation of children. “The National Center for Geriatrics is being established and the treatment base for pediatric tuberculosis is being strengthened,” says prof. A.Naudžiūnas.

“The Republican Hospital of Kaunas has complemented the new treatment institution LSMU Hospital of Kaunas with Clinics of Psychiatry and Nursing, strong surgery – general and angio surgery, successfully developing specialized counseling services for the development of children”, emphasizes Assoc. Dr. D.Žaliaduonytė.

Perspective: LSMU Kaunas Hospital Medical Director doc. Dr. D.Žaliaduonytė sees more innovations in science and medicine in the future, contributing to the university.

New logo, new plans

Soon, Kaunas residents will see the posters modified with the new hospital logo. The creators of the symbol are the branding studio “Godspeed Branding”. The modern logo symbol encodes several meanings: a medical cross, the initials K and L, and repetitive L letters that convey the complexity of the hospital and the fusion of hospitals.

“By forgoing obvious medical symbols like snake, cup, heart, etc., we have given the logo a modern look. The non-traditional colors that we have chosen express positive emotion and convey a feeling of empathy and joy to the audience, ”explains Džiugas Valančauskas, representative of the studio.

Stakeholders: the Ministry of Health (SAM) and LSMU approved the draft structure of the medical and administrative services units prepared by two Kaunas medical institutions in May. During the summer, Kaunas Clinical and Republican Kaunas Hospitals intensively prepared for the merger.
