There are five new cases of COVID-19 in Latvia and 25 in Estonia

According to the center in Latvia, one of the infected people had contacts with people who had previously been diagnosed with a coronavirus infection, and the remaining four were infected abroad, in Russia and Ukraine.

The incidence rate of coronavirus in the last 14 days is 24.61 cases per 100,000. population.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Estonia, more than 175 thousand Tests totaled 2,722 cases of coronavirus infection, 64 people died from the disease and another 2,286 recovered.

In Latvia, isolation time is shortened

On Tuesday, the Latvian government approved a proposal by the Health Ministry to reduce the isolation period for arrivals from the affected countries from 14 to 10 days, with the exceptions provided.

Those arriving in Latvia from these countries will be able to take the COVID-19 test on the eighth day after their arrival and, in the event of a negative result, end their isolation on the 11th.

The 14-day self-isolation will continue to apply to people who have been in contact with people infected with COVID-19, as well as to personnel in educational, medical and social care centers who come into direct contact with others.

Latvian Health Minister Ilze Vinkelė said on Tuesday that Latvia should not increase the incidence of COVID-19 from 16 to 25 cases per 100,000 people to determine the countries where the isolation requirement should apply.

He recalled that at the initiative of the Ministry of Economy, the issue had already been discussed by the government, but most of the ministers did not support this change.
