According to the Kėdainiai Division of the Kaunas Department of the National Public Health Center (NVSC), the investigation of the COVID-19 infection was conducted after the person entered the reception department of the Kėdainiai Hospital for other reasons.

To control the spread of communicable diseases, the NVSC is conducting an epidemiological study of the COVID-19 case. Currently 15 people are known to be exposed, 13 of whom are health workers. It explains how many of them had close contact with a patient diagnosed with coronavirus. The epidemiological diagnosis of COVID-19 continues.

According to Stasys Skauminas, director of Kėdainiai Hospital, the person was transferred to the Admission-Emergency Department due to other illnesses on September 13. Due to age and concomitant illness, the person is at risk and her condition was serious.

As is the case in these cases, the patient was tested for COVID-19 infection. A positive response was received on Monday morning. On the same day, the patient was transferred to the Kaunas Clinical Hospital of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, where patients with coronavirus are treated.

According to S. Skuminas, the hospital facilities were immediately disinfected and health workers who contacted the patient withdrew from work.

We believe that the risk should not be very high, because everyone worked with security measures and complying with all the requirements. The risk is also evaluated by the National Center for Public Health, which will decide which employees should be isolated, ”said the hospital director.

This is the eighth case identified in the Kėdainiai district municipality this month. In total, in the city and district of Kėdainiai, Covid-19 infection was confirmed in 23 residents, there are 11 who have recovered.

Currently, three compatriots live in the municipality’s facilities due to self-isolation. They have returned from the UK, Austria and Sweden.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, this week (from September 14 to September 20 inclusive) the population of the Kėdainiai district municipality will undergo more intensive tests for the coronavirus. Kėdainiai is included in the list of municipalities with higher incidence than other Lithuanian municipalities.
