Aurelijus Veryga, Minister of Health, Head of State-level Emergency Operations, and Daiva Razmuvienė, Chief Specialist of the Infectious Disease Management Division of the National Center for Public Health (NVSC), spoke at a news conference Monday about how to curb this increase in morbidity.
Warned of planned trips
Veryga recalled that the incidence rate of the countries included in the affected list has changed since Monday. It has increased from 16 to 25 thousand inhabitants.
However, the minister at a press conference urged all travelers to remain vigilant.
“Don’t lose your vigilance and if you are planning trips, look at the morbidity rates in those countries. If the trip is not in the near future, not this week and the country is very close to the rate of affected countries, approaching very close to 25 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days, still think carefully if such a trip is necessary. It may happen that when you leave and come back, you have to isolate yourself, ”said A. Veryga.
When asked how quickly a country can cross the index of affected countries and be on the list: for example, if Poland currently has a rate of 19.2, it would be safe to travel to that country, Veryga replied that due to the proximity from Poland that people will travel by car and be able to return 24 hours.
“It just came to our notice then. Here we are talking more about travel where people plan a longer departure that takes several days where there are flights. Especially when it comes to labor matters. And anyway, countries can cross that indicator very fast. As you can see, we have only recently been in a different position than we are now. Our Estonian neighbors were in an even better position than Lithuania at the moment. But those rates are increasing very fast and it depends on many factors. When the indicator approaches 20, it is really necessary to stumble and, if it is not necessary, to postpone those trips at least for a while, ”said the head of SAM.
Medical services cannot be suspended
The minister promised that if the virus continues to spread in medical institutions as it is now, it can be expected that dental services and other treatments will not stop.
“It seems that most of the institutions and specialists who work there have learned to be safe, they have learned to use protective equipment. We spoke to the professionals this morning, so it would be good to remind you of some things that you may have forgotten during the summer. As practice has shown, institutions, even those with COVID-19 patients, behave correctly if they use protective equipment correctly and the risk of infection is minimal, and we hope it will continue to do so, ”said A. Veryga.
Hospitals lie 37
According to D. Razmuvienė, there are currently 37 people hospitalized in hospitals. In resuscitation and intensive care units – 5. Artificial lung ventilation is applied to 1 person.
“In hospitals, as in all the end of August, the number of people who lie in September is on average 35 to 45. Yesterday 37 people were hospitalized. In resuscitation and intensive care units – 5. Also, every day, from August until now, between 3 and 6 people are treated in intensive care units. Artificial lung ventilation applies to 1 person. On average, there were between 1 and 3 people each, ”said D. Razmuvienė.
Distributed in 30 treatment facilities
According to the epidemiologist, 30 educational institutions have currently been registered with coronavirus infection. In total, COVID-19 was established for 43 people in these educational institutions. Of these, 34 children, of which 2 are of preschool age, 6 are people who participate in the educational process, 3 are employees who do not have direct contact with the educational process. 561 people from educational institutions are isolated.
“In one of the progymnasiums, Vilnius Gabija progymnasium, a spread has been recorded. As we know to this day, there was no spread in the educational institution itself, neither in school nor in preschool. All cases of infection come from elsewhere. It is now the first educational institution where the spread occurs internally. A total of 8 people are infected, ”said D. Razmuvienė.
Therefore, according to the epidemiologist, only in one of the 30 educational institutions the spread is local and takes place in the school itself.
“But the chimney is insulated, all the contacts are collected, everyone is known. Now everything will depend on how those 100 students, 20 teachers will comply with the obligation to perform the isolation correctly so that there is no secondary propagation. That should be watched very closely. Until now, the fireplace has not been extended to other classes. <...> As we mentioned, this situation will definitely be registered in other educational institutions as well ”, said D. Razmuvienė.
When asked by journalists in which case children would not be admitted to school, if runny nose is a sufficient reason for this, the minister replied that it also depends on the type of runny nose.
“Colds don’t match. This can also happen due to colder air coming from colder air or children who have allergic conditions. Each case should be considered on its own merits, but a runny nose is not considered a specific symptom of COVID-19. There are only other symptoms, fever, loss of taste, smell, sore throat. We should not rush to send children with a runny nose, “said A. Veryga.
You can contact us by phone for self-isolation
As the Minister said at the press conference, from now on NVSC specialists will be able to inform the person about the phone by phone.
“This means that it will not be necessary for a person to sign a consent for isolation. It will be sufficient for the NVSC to provide the information by phone. Of course, on a condition that the telephone conversation is recorded,” warned A. Veryga.
According to the SAM manager, a person who has registered for the COVID-19 test will be able to go to the checkpoint and therefore will no longer have to fill out an application to leave the isolation site.
Furthermore, those who live and work abroad and want to leave Lithuania within 14 days will not have to apply. It will be enough that they inform the NVSC specialists about the planned departure date, ”said the Minister.

If we look at where that member of the family, we can find those links with another sewing company. It is possible that the human communication chains are not even in the same city.
