According to the school director, 234 students and almost thirty teachers have to isolate themselves. However, representatives from the National Center for Public Health (NVSC) question whether the school should have been closed.

The teachers at the Juodupė Gymnasium rushed to get the most necessary from the school: teaching materials, some of them computers, because they are preparing to work from home: “Two weeks and we don’t know anything else.”

A math teacher traveling from school to self-isolation says she is not afraid.

“I think it’s a disease, if I have to, I’ll get sick. Everything, thank you.”

The teacher assures: it feels good.

“We feel very good today.”

A shuttle bus also stops near the Juodupė Gymnasium, which often takes students from the school to Rokiškis. An elderly passenger freaks out when she hears the news of a closed school and isolated students.

At Juodupė Gymnasium, the coronavirus has already been detected in three employees, one of their teachers, who taught non-formal education classes for students. According to the gym director, the number of contacts is huge and it is simply impossible to track them all. 234 students and almost 30 teachers are already isolated.

“It is difficult now to trace those chains of who, with whom and who could. We, in consultation with the mayor, the head of the Department of Education, decided to move on to home schooling. We can work, we just want to stop the fireplace, ”says Dainora Mineikienė, director of the gym.

According to the gym director, some educators are also concerned about the health of their loved ones. Dissatisfaction also arises on the part of employers, because they do not want to leave other teachers in the jobs.

“The teacher’s husband told his employer not to come to work until the teacher took the test. People begin to see everyone as lepers. Employees who are fed up with us have symptoms. I spoke to them very recently, they said: there is nothing to worry about these symptoms, ”says D. Mineikienė.

NVSC assures that the school did not consult with them about the closure of the educational institution. Therefore, such a solution raises many doubts for healthcare professionals: distances may not have been maintained and masks are not always used. According to experts, the school employee was infected with a coronavirus from a colleague, had contact with a patient who is currently being treated in an infectious disease ward.

“The whole school, every class, is isolated, which raises the question again where such close communication could have come from. If more than 200 are isolated and the school is moved to a remote location, it may not have been necessary. isolate everyone, perhaps it was only necessary to isolate those who were at high risk, ”says epidemiologist Daiva Razmuvienė.

The NVSC also announces that coronavirus has been detected in 20 educational institutions in the country, and 16 children have COVID-19. And the Minister of Health, Aurelijus Veryga, assures that the figures do not surprise him, which was what was expected.

“From what I see the data now, that number can be intimidating in terms of institutions, but how many people are isolated, a class or two.” No big problem, they will wake up in that distance learning in those two weeks and they will come back. ” said A. Veryga.

Yesterday 32 new cases of coronavirus were detected. And on Wednesday, the COVID-19 committee decided to facilitate conditions for returnees from abroad. For those who returned from abroad, they had no contact with the infected, did not experience symptoms and after 8 days they developed a test that is negative, the isolation time is reduced to 10 days. This is expected to allow people who are not infected with the coronavirus to return to work more quickly.
