This morning an old man was found who went out to collect mushrooms and got lost in the forests of the Jonava district.
Yesterday, September 9, 10:24 pm A report was received that a Jonava resident was at about 4.30 pm he went to the mushrooms at the Dumsiai nursing home in the Jonava district and did not return. Relatives found the car of a man who did not return (born 1953) in the Jonava district of the old town of Switzerland, near the Ešalotas complex, inspected the surrounding wooded areas and, if they could not find it, went to the officials for help.
Officials remind mushrooms that they have a charged cell phone and, for example, a whistle.
After receiving a report from a resident lost in the woods, officers from the Jonava District Police Commissariat of the Kaunas County Chief Police Commissariat took the necessary search actions. When the mobile connection was activated intermittently, an attempt was made to determine the coordinates, the approximate location of the man. In the dark, a car search was conducted using sound and visual signals. The help of a thermographic camera capable of visualizing the intensity distribution of infrared radiation on the surface and seeing the temperature distribution was also sought.
Finally this morning around 8 pm a (healthy) man was found in a forest near the village of Būdai, an old man from Užusaliai.
To prevent entertainment mushrooms and berries from becoming an accident, officials remind forest visitors to choose the area they know best. “Older people get lost quite often. Sometimes they underestimate their strength, go too far into the forest, a similar environment is deceiving and it becomes even more difficult to find a way out, especially if it gets dark,” says Virginija Bagdzevičienė, Head of the Division Kaunas County LSC Public Order Board Operational Management Board.
To ensure the safety and health of the population, Kaunas County police officers remind those who go to the mushrooms to take a mobile phone and check if it is charged. This urges residents not to forget to wear brighter clothing, to have a whistle with them, and to always agree on the exact meeting place if you are going to the mushroom alone. If you promise to go it alone, remember to inform your loved ones about the most precise place you are going.
