Vilnius also requests that each case of the virus be tracked to determine how it spreads and eliminate the most risky environments.
“We have to appreciate that these groups are in contact with many people, so they are in the risk zone and can transmit this risk to others.” Furthermore, when thinking about the planned opening of schools, we must protect all of its staff; this requires investigation now, ”said Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius.
Vilnius has every chance to study larger groups of people, and they will grow further as soon as the barcode system purchased by Vilnius is used for research, eliminating any risk of sample confusion, saving laboratory staff time and speeding up the sampling process.
The Vilnius mayor also emphasizes the need to trace every new case of the virus before the first contact with an infected person.
“If we want to combat the virus effectively by alleviating quarantine, we must proceed to a thorough investigation of each case, as many foreign countries do. In the absence of such data, there is speculation about quarantine measures or their mitigation. For example , there has been at least one case, and if so, of the circumstances in which a person has become infected, for example, on public transport or in outdoor cafes. Only with data can more daring and reasonable decisions be made “, R. Šimašius said.
The mayor emphasizes the importance of accurate data. “If necessary Vilnius can help collect, publish and process data on virus cases in Lithuania. We have a strong team of data analysts and the goal of all institutions is to monitor the virus,” said the mayor of Vilnius.
Over the weekend, the National Center for Public Health released aggregate data for Friday and Saturday, with 43 new cases of the virus detected in two days.
However, as the municipality of Vilnius noted, the data was inaccurately provided, making it difficult to understand the reasons for this number: 15 cases were detected at the Antaviliai pension, 10 – at the clinical hospital in Vilnius city, 12 – in Klaipėda. The NVSC announced that 22 new cases had been identified on Saturday, but another report from the institution had already shown other numbers – there are reportedly 35 of those cases.
