“Jonas Kairys was questioned at the Financial Crimes Investigation Service on September 1. He was granted special witness status in the investigation into the purchase of rapid COVID-19 tests,” the FNTT spokeswoman confirmed to BNS on Wednesday , Modesta Zdanauskaitė.
On Tuesday, the Attorney General’s Office and the FNTT website confirmed to lrt.lt that the status of special witness in the FNTT investigation amounted to 6 million. The Vice Chancellor of the Government, former adviser to Prime Minister Lukas Savickas, was also awarded the purchase of rapid tests for coronavirus. He was interrogated on September 4.
A person may be questioned as a special witness if there is evidence in the record that a crime may have been committed and that the crime may have been committed by a particular person, but that information is not sufficient to give him or her suspect status.
The LRT Research Division has previously announced that L. Savickas, on the order of Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, has issued a direct order to urgently start the purchase of rapid tests in March.
J. Savickas, in turn, told delfi.lt that the Government played a coordinating role, and the decision was made by the Minister of Health Aurelijus Veryga.
In total, six people were charged in the FNTT investigation, including representatives of the Profarma company, the then Deputy Minister of Health Lina Jaruševičienė, a member of the Vilnius City Council and the head of Bona Diagnosis, Redas Laukys.
According to the study, it amounts to 6 million. The company allegedly falsified the documents and provided the buyer with false information about the manufacturer of the rapid tests for COVID-19.
The acquisitions were made by the National Public Health Laboratory. Police have questioned the interim management of the laboratory. The then head of the laboratory, Vytautas Zimnickas, died in mid-July.
The Special Investigation Service is also conducting another investigation on more than 5 million. purchases of COVID-19 reagents worth € 1 million; the laboratory also bought the reagents.
