“After the arrest, when I was in the Financial Investigation Department, they actively spoke to me. They were probably department employees. They were interested in taking Mary Kalesnikava abroad. First of all, they offered me to go abroad with her and Anton Radniankov in her car, “I. Kravcov told reporters in Kiev on Tuesday.

But then officials’ plans appeared to have changed, he said.

“Mary and I talked about this before the arrest, she did not want to leave. Apparently they understood and put us on the minibuses, then we went somewhere, they probably picked up Mary, then they stopped us at the KGB and took us to the border” said the Executive Secretary of the Coordinating Council.

“What interested the employees … first of all, they were interested in the possibility of taking Mary Kalesnikava abroad. They explained the need to reduce, in their opinion, the situation in the country, and one of the options proposals was that we cross the border in three of our personal cars, “Kravtsov told a news conference in the Ukrainian capital on Tuesday.

He stated that he was convinced that the main task was to take Mr. Kalesnikava abroad.

“The main task, which I understand was carried out, was to take Mary Kalesnikava abroad to create a vague media background. And we acted as an instrument of this task, which means that she was not personally related to us, everything was related to the figure of Mary and the authority she has in society ”, explained I. Kravcov.

Broke his passport

Coordination Council spokesman Radniankov confirmed that the opposition had broken his passport when crossing the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.

“She was married and there was a lot of noise, that is, you could hear that they were taking her by force, that she resisted, that they forced her to sit in the back seat … She screamed that she was not going anywhere. As soon as she found herself in the car and saw her passport, she immediately took it and tore it into many small pieces. She took these pieces, squeezed them and threw them out the window at unknown youths surrounding the car, “Radniankov said.

Kravtsov told reporters that Kalesnikawa could remain in Mozyr’s border platoon.

“There are some credible sources that say that she may be detained in the Mozyr border platoon. On the other hand, … she will probably be on the State Security Committee, because I think that such interesting special operations are usually carried out by the KGB, “she said.

Radniankov told reporters that he and Kravtsov were detained in the courtyard of Kalesnikava’s house on Monday.

“It all started yesterday around 10 o’clock. In the morning, journalists called me and told me that Mary Kalesnikava had been arrested. We could not reach her, but we realized that her phone was at home, we went to her home, we entered the stairs, we went up to the apartment, it was quiet there. And already at the exit, in the arch of the patio of Avenida Independencia, a “bus” approached us, since lately we have been traveling here frequently, and they have arrested us, “he said, mentioning minibuses without numbers used by workers in the power structure.

According to him, they were first taken to the Economic Security and Anti-Corruption Board and then to the Financial Investigation Department.

“They have shown me a series of documents that, in their opinion, confirm my alleged illegal actions in relation to previous works. I was not allowed to look at them or evaluate their importance. I have been told that the treatment of economic crimes is very broad. They threatened me with a criminal case under an article on abuse of power, “Kravtsov told reporters.

Applying for asylum in Ukraine does not plan

Radniankov and Kravtsov said they had no plans to seek political asylum in Ukraine and confirmed that they had residence permits.

“Ivan and I really have residence permits. We are volunteers for a non-profit organization that organizes events, and on that basis we have received residence permits,” Radniankov told reporters in Kiev.

Kravtsov also said that Belarusian energy workers had bought airline tickets to other countries before sending them to him, Messrs. Radniankov and Kalesnikava to Ukraine.

“When they put us in a car at the border, we found evidence of coronavirus and health insurance there,” the man said.

“Anton and I bought tickets to Turkey today, and Mary had tickets to Vienna, and from there to Munich. Apparently to photograph and supposedly stage our plans to fly abroad,” he added.

The electoral headquarters of Viktor Babaryka, a former candidate for the presidency of Belarus, announced on Tuesday that M. Kalesnikawa had been arrested, allegedly being held by border guards in the Gomel region of the Mozyr district.

Conflicting information about the opposition has emerged in the past. It became impossible to contact her, A. Radniankov and I. Kravcov on Monday. The portal tut.by, based on the story of a witness, reported that M. Kalesnikava had been detained by people in civilian clothes and taken away in a minibus.

Later, the state agency BelTA and the Belarus channel 1 declared that I. Kravcov and A. Radniankov had left the country, and M. Kalesnikava “tried to leave the territory of Belarus illegally, but was detained at the border.”

According to Belarus 1, the opposition “crossed” the border and M. Kalesnikava was reportedly thrown out of the car.

Ukraine’s Deputy Interior Minister Anton Herashchenko said that Radniankov and Kravtsov’s departure was a “forced eviction”.

Alexander Lukashenko, for his part, said that “Kalesnikava was arrested for violating the rules of crossing the state border.”

Protests against the results of the presidential elections on August 9 have been going on in Belarus for almost a month. Its winner was President Lukashenko, who has ruled the country since 1994. The opposition and Western countries consider these elections to be rigged.

Lukashenko’s main rival in the elections, Sviatlana Cichanouskaya, withdrew to Lithuania immediately after the elections.
