The interlocutor, who returned from Širvintos only early in the morning, said that the volunteers are still catching released dogs.

“The volunteers have already dispersed, all the cubs have taken over, it is true that not all of us can find them, some are still loose, the volunteers will try to catch them. Yesterday more than 30 dogs took refuge. That point is closing little by little, ”he said.

The communication chief of the animal welfare organization Lesė said she was surprised by the negative attitude of the local population towards the volunteers.

“When I was driving, I thought that my heart would stop to see the animals, because when you see such conditions, it is difficult to control, with a sober mind to understand how it is possible. But I was also very surprised by the behavior of the people: the volunteers were really on duty, masked. But there is another side, the people of the rural community gathered, who communicated with the volunteers in a very offensive way, accompanied each dog that they took out with applause and whistles, ”he said.

The volunteers also faced insults.

“You sincerely come to help, but it’s scary, it’s unpleasant, it’s uncomfortable. There were also relatives of the owner who communicated in a very disrespectful and unpleasant way. You try to hold the dog’s name with shaking hands and still get insults from you. I came back disappointed and with the behavior of the people, frankly, I did not expect that people could be so disgusting ”, said D. Makarovaitė in the program“ Delfi rytas ”.

He argued that this voluntary movement could affect illegal actors.

“We have all noticed that they are not individual breeders, it is the whole network, they exchange dogs with each other, they exchange them, and when they get information that they come to verify, the dogs leave. I urge people to stay sober and try to act systematically, to put pressure on all illegal actors from all sides, ”said the communication manager of the animal welfare organization Lesė.

The interlocutor urged everyone to act systematically and welcomed initiatives to connect all shelters in a common network.

“It just came to our knowledge then. The animals were taken and rescued, but it’s not clear where they were taken, who they belong to. You know, when you’re really eager to save, don’t think about the whole process of what happens next. Because you are actually vacating the premises, but you are not sure, maybe new animals will arrive ”, she said scared on the program“ Delfi rytas ”.

D. Makarovaitė stated that society is currently aware enough to make a change.

“It really has been going on for many years, we have been talking about it for many years, we are asking for help. Perhaps there was a failure of the institutions, the hands were tied, we could not arbitrarily come to pick up the dog. And I think society the current state is conscious enough to demand it, “said the interlocutor on Tuesday morning.

“It is very strange that one dog is enough,” said D. Makarovaitė.

The interviewee said that as long as there is demand, there will be supply. He urged to abandon the cliché that a dog with documents is only for shows.

The communication manager of the animal care organization “Lesė” stated that by buying a cheaper dog without documents, it is possible to “buy” at the same time the behavior and health problems of the dog. And at the same time, it happens that illegal breeders sell even a dog of the wrong breed.

“We really have stories that people buy a taxi, but a Rottweiler grows up, there are stories,” he said of the undocumented purchase of dogs.

D. Makarovaitė hoped that the fines for such treatment of the animals would be adequate.

“I am very hopeful that these actions will stop, stop. But I hope this encourages the institutions to act, to cooperate, to guarantee the quality of life of the animals, their temporary care. Now the media are very useful “The public interest is kicking the movement. Another thing is that there should be adequate punishments. If, frankly, you get the kind of fine you can pay for selling a puppy, they earn a lot but spend little,” said the interlocutor on the program .
