Illness benefit in case of illness and care of a child

Malgožata Kozič, Chief Specialist of the Sodra Communications Division, reported that during an emergency situation, certificates of incapacity for work are issued according to the description of the temporary procedure. It establishes a simplified temporary procedure for the issuance of certificates of incapacity for work due to the risk of spreading the coronavirus infection.

If the employee needs to be isolated, a specialist from the National Center for Public Health will electronically issue a complete referral to a family doctor who has been in contact with a contagious disease.

You must issue a certificate of inability to work remotely for 14 calendar days from the date of your exposure to the patient with Covid-19 disease, when the insured does not have access to telework and / or the employer has not declared him / her sick.

According to the specialist, the sickness benefit for self-isolation of the person (as well as for the person’s own illness) is paid with Sodra funds from the third day of temporary incapacity for work and amounts to 62.06%. the amount of earnings reimbursed by the beneficiary.

The sickness benefit during the first two calendar days of inability to work coinciding with the employee’s work or service hours is paid by the employer.

At that time, if a school announced a scheme that restricted the spread of the infection, then an incapacity for work and sickness benefit could be awarded for up to 14 calendar days for children of preschool, preschool or primary school age.

If the certificate of incapacity for work is issued for the care of a child, Sodra pays 65.94% from the first day of incapacity for work. the beneficiary’s compensatory earnings, calculated on the basis of the person’s average insured income during the three months prior to the month in which the certificate of incapacity for work was issued.

What is the “ceiling” of benefits

In any case, the maximum sickness benefit will not exceed € 1,807.02 per month or € 85.64 per working day (the benefit is paid only for days not worked).

People who work with individual activity certificates are covered by sickness insurance and can receive sickness benefits.

As with all health insurance contributors, to receive sickness benefit, the self-employed must have served at least 3 months in the last 12 months or at least 6 months in the last 24 months before the first day of illness.

Upon application to Sodra (this can also be done online), the sickness benefit is transferred to the account indicated therein. Sodra makes a decision on the granting of sickness benefit within 10 working days after the application is submitted. It will be paid within 7 business days from the date of the decision.

How will child care be paid for?

The adviser to the Minister of Social Security and Labor, Eglė Samoškaitė, pointed out that childcare benefits would be paid only if quarantine was announced and therefore the activities of the educational institution were restricted.

According to her, if the quarantine were announced and at the same time the restrictions on the functioning of educational institutions came into force, it would be parents who would raise children under 8 years of age (whether they attend daycare centers or not), as well as primates or children with disability under 21 years. , you could receive sickness and disability benefit.

But we emphasize that this is related to the announcement of quarantine and restrictions on the operation of educational institutions. Until the quarantine regime is announced, there are no restrictions for the operation of educational institutions, then parents could not receive benefits for incapacity for work and illness for the care of non-sick children ”, explained the counselor.

It is true that if it were the case that a school was subject to a regime that restricted the spread of the infection, then the benefit for incapacity for work and illness would be guaranteed for up to 14 calendar days for children of preschool, preschool or primary age . level.
