“A class is studying remotely because one of his classmates got sick from COVID-19 and it turned out that two of them met him when he was sick,” Principal Vilija Sušinskien, the school’s principal, told BNS on Saturday.
According to her, the student infected with coronavirus had not been to school since September 1, but two students in the class who had been in contact with the patient were tested for coronavirus and found no infection.
“Negative test, they are not infected,” said the school principal.
According to her, a total of 23 eighth graders will study remotely in the next two weeks, as requested by the students’ parents.
“It just came to our attention then. At first, we did not provide distance education, but then parents started not allowing their children and we made that decision,” said V. Sušinskienė.
Rolanda Lingienė, head of the Vilnius department of the National Center for Public Health, informed BNS on Saturday that it was not necessary for the class to isolate itself.
“The classmates did not instruct the class to isolate themselves,” said the public health specialist.
According to her, only people who have had direct contact with the patient should be isolated, not secondary contacts.
“Voluntarily, of course, they can, at will. But I’m afraid that in this way we can all isolate ourselves immediately, ”said R. Lingienė.
The Alytus News newspaper reported on Friday that a class from Alytus School was studying from home.
To date, 3,040 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Lithuania, 989 people are still ill, 1,952 people have recovered, and 86 people have died from the coronavirus.
