NVSC Representative Asta Razmienė: In offices, people should not sit face to face

On Wednesday there will be a distance training to explain what to do to companies or institutions if they have a case of coronavirus.

“When investigating cases in companies, it is obvious that most of the employees lack knowledge of what to do if infections enter their territory,” said Rolanda Lingienė, head of the Vilnius department at NVSC, during the training. According to her, it happens that companies take actions that are not necessary.

Temperature and humidity in the office are important

A.Razmienė said that NVSC divides the risk of workplaces in several levels, in a company these levels can differ in different places.

Low risk when there is no frequent contact with other people and a distance greater than 1 meter. If such a distance cannot be guaranteed, in accordance with it, additional measures, such as partitions, should be installed.

According to A.Razmienė, it would be nice if people did not sit face to face at work.

In offices, it is important to set the air temperature at 24 degrees and the humidity at 60 or even higher.

Companies are offered to waive the events

A.Razmienė emphasized that traditional group events should be abandoned. In addition, it is very important to control that outsiders, such as messengers, do not enter the facilities. In such cases, the merchandise must be removed from the outside so that it does not enter.

In addition, according to her, company managers should be careful to limit traffic on company premises. The specialist stressed that the company’s facilities should be periodically cleaned with water and a neutral cleaner.

In no case, according to the specialist, not to spray disinfectant liquids without it, as there will be no benefit.

“It is very important to clean frequently touched surfaces as often as possible, at least twice a day,” he said, noting that it is not only the switches that need cleaning, but also the keyboards and telephones.

Partitions, he said, need to be cleaned too, and this needs to be done frequently.

“As a lot of customers come in, they leave respiratory sprays on those boards,” he said.

The dispersion of disinfectants in the form of mist is not recommended, as they are irritating to the skin and respiratory tract. Also, not all surfaces can be treated with disinfectant liquids.

Speaking of measuring temperature, he noted that not all people with coronavirus experience temperature. The companies say she should make it possible for people to work from home, especially if they experience cold symptoms.

It is very important to maintain mechanical ventilation systems.

“Ventilation is not recommended when some of the used air is returned to the premises,” he said. If such ventilation is installed and the windows of the building are not opened, all people are considered to be in contact if a sick person occurs.

The mask does not match the mask and the panel alone does not protect

“Wearing a mask alone is not enough to ensure a level of control,” he said. The specialist stressed that the masks of their own manufacture are suitable for public transport, in the store.

They are designed to protect others, but they do not protect the person using them.

Face shields, as pointed out by the specialist, are intended solely for eye protection against the virus.

“They are used instead of glasses in procedures where aerosols are formed,” he emphasized.

Instead of skins, he says, they cannot be worn, they must be under the panel.

Protective gloves, he said, need to be considered in addition to getting dirty. If you don’t change them and your face is thin, you can get infected.

The specialist urged people to get vaccinated against the flu so that there are fewer people with it.

After the incident in the company, the first thing is the disinfection of the premises

Ginreta Megelinskienė, head of the Communicable Disease Management Division of the Vilnius Department of the NVSC, said on Wednesday what to do if the infection entered the company.

He stressed the importance of communication in offices to prevent rumors from spreading.

If a case of coronavirus has occurred in the company, according to G. Megelinskienė, the epidemiological diagnosis of the case is made, it is clarified if there were symptoms and when, what could have infected it.

“It is appreciated throughout the incubation period that the person visited,” he said. She emphasized that then the person’s workplace is addressed in writing and orally, who the person was able to contact, what type of ventilation in the workplace, etc.

Everyone who has had contact is contacted, everyone is explained what to do. In the past, he said, specialists went to companies, but now they go to the fireplace in an exceptional case, because lately the number of cases has been small.

If the case is identified, the companies are first asked to disinfect the facilities. The second is the list of those who have been in contact.

Before testing people in a company on their own initiative, he said, it would be advisable to consult with epidemiologists, as it is very important when doing a study, however, studies may not show anything.

“We see that serological tests are also used to detect the acute phase of the disease,” he stressed.

Family members of exposed people can lead normal lives, another issue if a family member is diagnosed with coronavirus.

Low-risk exposure, he said, is when you communicate in less than 10 minutes and no less than 2 meters away.

Fireplaces are growing in businesses, according to the NVSC representative.

We are preparing for a stage

Vytautas Kasiulevičius, a professor at the Vilnius University Faculty of Medicine, said that there are various models of development of a pandemic.

One scenario, standing waves, the second, a bigger wave will be in autumn (Lithuania is preparing for this scenario). The third option: chronic agitation, quiet roar when there are no very large peaks.

According to V.Kasiulevičius, there is a certain effect of temperature and ultraviolet radiation on the spread of the virus.

“Is there a clear seasonality? There is a lot of discussion. Other coronaviruses are seasonal, more in the cold season, “he said.

According to V.Kasiulevičius, if a person is outside and people are rare, not even a mask is needed, because there is no great threat of infection. If there are more people or there are in the room, the teacher advises to use a mask.

He advises avoiding rooms where there is no ventilation, as a mask may not help.

Self-isolation for 14 days – required

According to V.Kasiulevičius, the symptoms of the disease appear after a maximum of 4 days, but in the Santara clinics there were cases when the symptoms of the disease appeared at the end of 14 days.

“It makes sense to monitor for up to 14 days safely, and not run outside if the isolation is said to be 14 days, that’s very important,” he said.

According to the professor, if we ensure physical distance as far as possible, the spread of the disease is controlled.

V. Kasiulevičius said that pandemics in the world recur regularly. “We have learned to analyze historical data and see the waves, that pandemics are characterized by a wave in the spring, a wave in the fall and the following spring. The wave of the cold season is bigger than that of the spring. But there are exceptions, especially since the coronavirus is different from the flu virus, “he said.

According to V. Kasiulevičius, the situation in the American continent is stabilizing, which cannot be said for Europe.

However, in Lithuania, according to V. Kasiulevičius, the disease is currently under control.

“We have already learned to apply containment measures, even when those measures do not seem to be used intensively: more and more people use masks, disinfect their hands, people try not to gather, it has an effect, it prevents the number of new diseases grow exponentially, “he said.
