As the epidemiological situation deteriorated, some 70 new cases of coronavirus were detected in Lithuania over the weekend. On Monday, Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga presented the latest trends at a remote press conference.
Recommendations for employees
Minister A. Veryga presented the latest recommendations at a press conference.
“I would like to start with the recommendations that have been signed today, they can be followed. These are recommendations for changes in the conditions necessary for the workplaces of state and municipal institutions in the companies they manage. We are already following one of those recommendations today: we communicate remotely, ”said the Minister.
It is recommended to apply this procedure in institutions and private companies. Whenever possible, it is proposed to organize shift work, the employees of which do not change or mix. Another is to assign different start, finish, and lunch times to different streams of workers.
“The goal is clear: for isolated groups to communicate as little as possible,” Veryga said.
Meetings, conferences and conventions are encouraged to be held remotely, if not, to wear masks.
Called for a proper evaluation
Daiva Razmuvienė, an epidemiologist at the National Center for Public Health (NVSC), recalled at a press conference that the September 1 celebration must be evaluated responsibly.
“I would like to remind you that tomorrow is September 1, according to all the recommendations, educational institutions are ready, but knowing that parents, caregivers and themselves have certain risk factors or children have chronic diseases. It is necessary to know how the school organizes the celebration, to assess the personal risk of their relatives ”, said D. Razmuvienė.
Epidemiologist D. Razmuvienė named all the coronavirus outbreaks currently observed by epidemiologists.
“Currently there are 23 active chimneys, of which 3 chimneys are registered in cafes, catering establishments, others – in family celebrations, they are moving to workplaces. The largest is in the Švenčionys district. There is still a fireplace in one of the Kaunas cafes, in the Adform courtyard, another one was registered yesterday, now 57. There are no fireplaces in medical institutions, “said the expert.
When asked to compare these figures with the quarantine period, D. Razmuvienė stated that there is a fundamental difference.
“At that time, up to 25 chimneys were registered, most of them in medical institutions. (…) Now there are no active chimneys in health institutions, ”said an NVSC representative.
The age of the sick is changing
D. Razmuvienė told the press conference that the age of most patients is changing.
“It just came to our knowledge then. During the summer, in June, although the number of patients was registered in units, but in late June, early July, August, we know that most of the young people are on vacation. And by at the moment, if we take the age range, it covers mainly from 20 to 45 years. There are isolated cases of patients older than 80 years, “he said.
The epidemiologist has confirmed that few children have coronavirus.
“Children, including people under the age of 18, have been diagnosed with the disease since the beginning of the pandemic. In terms of children, that percentage is certainly not high, but currently young people are sick compared to April,” D Razmuvienė presented the latest trends.
Consider changing morbidity rates in small municipalities
Veryga recalled that restrictions on the opening hours of entertainment venues would be decided at a government meeting on Wednesday. And the devices that register visitors to the bar are not a way to control the spread.
“It just came to our attention then. But the main objective is not to trace the contacts, but to prevent the infection from spreading. Therefore, no device should be overestimated,” A. Veryga told the press conference.
The minister hinted that it is also planned to change the morbidity indicators of the municipalities. Because only one or two cases in small municipalities place it on the extremely high risk list.
“We discussed municipal indicators at the meeting this morning, we will look for ways to use more indicators. To avoid this, in the case of one or two cases, they are very high risk and then a relatively large population is analyzed there. In fact, specialists are now discussing what other indicators could be consulted to more accurately assess the risks of municipalities, ”said the Minister of Health.
A. Veryga also assessed the current management of the spread of the coronavirus.
“We are somewhere in the middle of that old peak (in the spring, aut. P.). This is how it should be evaluated. But what is different than during the peak itself, then the carpet was very sudden. Now we observe that the growth is, but not very fast. This does not mean that we can calm down, but the speed of propagation itself is a little different, “A. Veryga said of the current figures at the press conference.
After Lithuania crosses the risky COVID-19 boundary, a meeting with Baltic colleagues
After Lithuania crosses the threshold of 16 coronavirus cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a meeting with the Baltic states will be held this week on further action, says Health Minister A. Veryga.
According to him, the possibility of organizing a remote conference with the participation of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Health of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia is currently being coordinated.
“We hope to organize a meeting of this type this week, discuss and discuss what the Baltic countries intend to follow in the future, knowing that our morbidity per 100,000 inhabitants has exceeded 16 cases per 100,000 inhabitants,” he said at a press conference on Monday.
