Looking for teachers and leaders
Currently, there are two teachers missing in the district, seven in the city and three more psychologists.
And two educational institutions, the Minties Gymnasium and the School of Music, will begin the school year without permanent supervisors. A competition for the position of gym director is scheduled for early September. The deputy has been in temporary charge of the music school since the summer of 2017.
There was a shortage of specialists in German
According to Eugenijus Kuchalskis, deputy director of the Panevėžys Municipality Education Department, competitions for vacancies are taking place in schools this week. According to Wednesday’s data, there was still a shortage of three German teachers at Panevėžys general education institutions, one for information technology, mathematics, chemistry and English.
According to E. Kuchalskis, gymnasiums already have teachers for all subjects, except J. Miltinis, who lacks a mathematician. Ąžuolas Progymnasium was looking for a professor of information technology, a chemist, Beržai Progymnasium, and a professor of English, A. Lipniūnas Progymnasium. A. Lipniūnas, “Žemynas” progymnasium and M. Karka basic school were looking for psychologists. The latter would hire a psychologist to replace him. And there are still no German teachers at the Hope, Šaltinis and Beržai progymnasiums.
E. Kuchalskis states that, compared to the previous school year, the number of vacant teaching positions remains similar. This year, schools have more problems with German language professionals. This is not one of the popular topics, but several students choose German and Russian as their second language.
“If a German teacher who has worked in two or three schools has resigned, he is missing in several”, E. Kuchalski did not rule out such a possibility.
The deputy director of the education department ensures that schools will find the missing specialists at the beginning of the school year.
The most demanded were primary school teachers
The Panevėžys district schools are expecting two teachers. On Thursday morning, the Smilgiai Gymnasium and the Preschool Education Department of the Upytė Antanas Belazaras Basic School were still looking for a chemistry teacher. That same morning, a competition was held at Ramygala Gymnasium to hire an information technology teacher.
“In fact, there were searches, many teachers changed jobs, but the schools found the right teachers. There is no sad situation, ”says Sigita Jasiūnienė, specialist from the Department of Education, Culture and Sports of the District Municipality.
All schools in the district will begin working with leaders. One of these was searched this summer. Paliūniškis Basic School will start the school year with Daiva Morkūnienė, who won the contest for the position of principal in July.
According to data from the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, there is a shortage of around 700 teachers across the country, mainly in Vilnius, Telšiai, Šiauliai and Klaipėda counties. Most schools are looking for specialists in preschool education and teachers in primary, Lithuanian, foreign languages and mathematics.
