The Palace of the Counts Tiškevičius, where the Kretinga Museum is located, has been constantly maintained in recent years and is beginning to acquire a historical aspect. During the Soviet era, the building was obscured by an annex, where a vocational school operated.
As the director of the Vida Kanapkienė museum said, the portico has completed the entire reconstruction project of the counts Tiškevičius. “It just came to our attention then. What was destroyed during the Soviet era has now taken its place. And the veranda, the former leisure place of the Tiškevičius counts, will once again serve the public: Kretinga residents, tourists, artists. Here it will be possible to organize concerts and share literary words ”, said the head of the museum.
The porch restoration project took about three years. As V. Kanapkienė said, the porch windows solved many puzzles: how they were designed to be comfortable. Iconographic material was examined. The portico was demolished after the First World War, and later an annex to the School of Agriculture was built in its place.
The mayor of Kretinga, Antanas Kalnius, stated that the restoration of the terrace is another step towards the provision of this city park. The alley next to the park is currently being renovated. “Tiškevičiai Palace is one of the most important pearls of Kretinga, this year it has attracted many visitors. We will continue to manage the park. There will be no dormitories that have been here for decades. Negotiations are underway with a few more neighbors. We look forward to it. that an agreement is reached in half a year and that the building be demolished. Fountains will be installed in that place, “said the mayor.

A.Kalnius revealed plans to rebuild the dwarf “Dwarf”. The museum’s conservatory, which is popular with visitors, will be rebuilt.
The restoration of the porch cost around 200 thousand. euros. Most of the funding was provided by the Government, with the contribution of the Department of Cultural Heritage of the Kretinga District Municipality. The musicians have already managed to test the acoustics on the porch and have rated it excellent.
