According to AGAI dean, dr. Justas Nugaras, the appearance of this building is the long awaited end of a much larger project. “With this 840 m2 extension, we plan to complete the relocation of AGAI from Rodūnia Road, where it was previously located, to the VGTU Linkmenai student campus. The expansion will connect with the VGTU AGAI Laboratory and Training Building, which was moved there a few years ago ”, says J. Nugaras. According to the dean, an auction is currently being announced to sell the old university buildings near the airport, once it is successfully implemented there will be an opportunity to start a new construction.

AGAI Dean says college students will undergo a fundamental change: “We want to bring the AGAI community together under one roof so that students have to travel as little as possible between dispersed faculty departments in different parts of the city. Our goal is for freshmen to meet seniors more often. In the best universities in the world, it is common for students to spend a lot of time between classes and later in the university, we want it to also become something common in VGTU, so a large part of the new building will be used for leisure space: corridors, library and reading room ”.

According to the press release, the newly built part will house common areas, an auditorium-conference room amphitheater, two smaller auditoriums, a reading room, a meeting room with multimedia equipment and the facilities of the dean’s office. faculty.

According to Karolis Sankauskas, general director of the UAB Projektavimo sprendimai, the project executing company, the new space will stand out for its design and solutions: in addition to the plan, which will really attract the attention of visitors, there will be stairs that will perform two functions: movement and point meeting of the students. it is possible to spend time between conferences. “There was a great lack of leisure facilities at AGAI. When creating the building, he wanted it to have an identity of its own, emphasize its purpose, awaken the desire to be in it, to improve and achieve its goals. The space around the building was quite monotonous. , was invented to cheer you up: a mini runway will appear, the model of the Vilnius airport will be reduced. This will be an accent that also serves for academic activities. When creating buildings for an educational institution, it is necessary to give them the spirit so that students feel like at home, and not visiting here to quickly evaluate assignments and listen to lectures ”, says K. Sankauskas.

UAB Director General Projektavimo sprendimai says the biggest challenge in designing the new building was the limited space and the desire to compactly accommodate a large amount of space in it, as well as make them visually interesting. The building design also took into account the needs of the existing building, so sustainable, durable and economical solutions were chosen, the responsible use of non-renewable natural resources was considered, energy efficient design solutions that do not contribute to change were chosen climate or environmental pollution, and that protect natural resources.

According to him, K. Sankauskas is a graduate of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering of the VGTU, and this project is a tribute to the university: During the last 15 years, many buildings have been designed, but this is the first time that a university has had to build from scratch. While I was still studying, I thought it would be great to pay tribute to my educational institution, and today this is all becoming a reality. “

The pandemic slightly changed the aviation market. AGAI Dean J. Nugar points out that while the aviation sector is struggling due to the global pandemic, once it is over, people will want to wear makeup and keep traveling and flying, so the recovering market will need more and more specialists. “AGAI is one of the few faculties in Lithuania where the number of students is growing. We believe that this trend will not change ”, says the Dean of AGAI.
