Buses will enter the station from Volunteer Square, thus shortening their route and making it more convenient for all road users. Pedestrian, disabled, cyclist, motorized routes are also solved, avoiding traffic crossings. The project proposals include road safety measures, road markings, illuminated crossings, new LED luminaires for station and pedestrian lighting, luminaires with dimming function, video surveillance cameras, etc., the installation of small architectural objects is foreseen.

The station building is shaped like an irregular trapezoid. The façades are planned to be made of transparent glass, providing visual connections between the interior spaces and the exterior platform. It is planned to install a 92-storey underground car park under the building and the platform. The bus station is expected to be equipped with a passenger waiting room, lockers, driving room, baggage and small packages department, dispatch center, information service, sanitary and administrative facilities, etc.

“It is not easy to find a high-quality and sustainable urban solution. I can only be glad that in this case it has been found and the implementation of the station project becomes another accent of the renewable Panevėžys. The project will fundamentally change the image of the station and its surroundings. The proposals presented by the author are characterized by their complexity, focused on human convenience. Here the construction of the central part of the city was evaluated, the evident desire to revive the station and its entrances, to become in an actively visited space in the central part of the city. It is proposed to build a bus station, a platform with new vegetation on the site of the current petroleum plaza, while preserving the valuable existing vegetation. It is planned to form an area attractive recreation area for Panevėžys residents and city guests on the current asphalt surface of the station, ”says Ryt is Račkauskas, Mayor of Panevėžys, in a press release.

“When creating this project, our main objective was to create more order and security. Now the town’s petroleum plaza is delimited by asphalt, unworkable, the buzzing around the machines gives mothers with children a feeling of insecurity, there is not a single cafe that can take the tables to the plaza. We think that changing the location of the station platform with the Plaza de los Voluntarios would be a strategic step that would provide a number of advantages in the future, ”said R. Palekas.

The Panevėžys City Council has prepared the necessary documents for the implementation of the project, a detailed plan of the territory has been prepared (restricted to J.Basanavičius, Ukmergės St., Laisvės and Savanorių St.). Based on this, a parcel of land was formed, cadastral measurements were made and cadastral data documents were prepared, the National Land Service transferred the parcel to the Municipality for free use and a state land use contract was signed.
