Lukas Žemaitis, who was 28 years old and became the European Junior Champion of Europe, died in the United States in 2008.

Laurynas Misevičius, representative of the Lithuanian community living in the United States, announced this.

“Tonight he came to all of us with the saddest news in people’s lives … Lukas Žemaitis, who had not even turned 30 and had recently lived with his parents in New Jersey, went to Anapilin,” he wrote Misevičius on his Facebook.

Lukas Žemaitis played for the national team along with Jonas Valančiūnas, Edgars Ulanovas, Vytenis Čižauskas, Tautvydas Sabonis and other basketball players.

He then scored 22 points in 8 games in the championship.

Misevičius writes that later Samogitia moved to New Jersey and continued to play basketball, in 2009 he represented the Lithuanians in the United States at the World Millennium Games in Vilnius, he played for the New Jersey “Flame” team, in 2010 he participated in the “Embassy Cup” competition in Washington.
