An earlier one-day record of new cases was recorded in Poland last weekend, when the country detected 658 new cases of infection per day.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country increased to 48,149 and the number of deaths to 1,738.

The ministry said 222 of the newly diagnosed infections were in the southern Silesian coal mining region, where the disease spread among local miners.

On the eve, 575 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the country.

1,859 coronavirus patients were still being treated in Polish hospitals on Tuesday morning; 65 of them require artificial pulmonary ventilation.

The total number of people recovered has increased to 35,056, the health ministry added.

Poland’s health ministry is proposing tougher measures in the country’s voivodships, where new cases of coronavirus are on the rise, the country’s health minister Lukasz Szumowski told Dziennik Gazeta Prawna on Tuesday.

According to the minister, the ministry’s recommendations have already been sent to the country’s prime minister’s administration, which was done during the last meeting of the government’s crisis management team on Friday afternoon. The meeting was convened after the number of new cases increased for two consecutive days.

According to L. Szumowski, the Ministry of Health proposes stricter measures in individual voivodships, where the majority of COVID-19 cases are currently detected.

“It is important to note that we are dealing with a dramatic increase in cases, new fireplaces are registered in the workplace, often in large ones,” emphasizes the minister.

The new procedure and restrictions will force the wedding planner to pre-register the number of planned guests. Inspections will also be carried out to ensure that the specified number of guests is not exceeded and that all sanitary requirements are met.

Currently, the number of participants in celebrations such as weddings does not exceed 150, and this number is expected to decrease.

Commenting on the requirement to quarantine foreign returnees, the Minister stressed that the issue is also being considered.

“Perhaps such people will be required to take the COVID-19 test at special points,” added Szumowski.

The virus has also recently spread among the country’s parliamentarians. Three senators have already contracted the virus. It has been decided to postpone future meetings of the upper and lower houses of the Polish parliament, but the inauguration of the second-term president, Andrzej Duda, will take place as planned.

The inauguration will take place in parliament this Thursday, with all precautions.
