Poland recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases detected per day in the country

The Health Ministry said in a Twitter message that the coronavirus epidemic also claimed 15 lives in the last day.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country increased to 45,031 and the number of deaths to 1,709.

The ministry said 160 of the newly identified cases of infection were in the southern Silesian coal mining region, where the disease spread among local miners.

A further 133 cases of COVID-19 have been identified in neighboring Lesser Poland Voivodeship, which has the historic city of Krakow and the popular mountain resort of Zakopane.

In the Voivodeship of Central Mazovia, owner of the capital, Warsaw, 95 new cases of COVID-19 were detected, almost double the previous day.

The most recent victims of coronavirus infection are eight men between the ages of 62 and 91 and seven women between the ages of 59 and 90, the health ministry said. It is also reported that the majority of these patients had concomitant chronic diseases.

On Wednesday, Poland reported 512 cases of infection and 12 deaths per day. On Tuesday, the country recorded 502 cases of COVID-19 per day and six patient deaths.

1,694 patients infected with coronavirus were still being treated in Polish hospitals on Thursday morning; 63 of them require artificial ventilation.

The total number of people recovered increased to 33,643, added the health ministry.
