On January 31, Mr. Conte declared a state of emergency for six months when a Chinese couple was diagnosed with a coronavirus in Rome. If not extended, the state of emergency will expire on Friday. Conté also spoke in parliament in favor of opening schools in September. “10 million children should be able to return to school in complete safety. A lot of effort is needed. This is a great challenge for the country,” said the prime minister. In Italy, schools have been closed since March 5.
