The initiator of the idea, the manager of the mansion, the priest Rimantas Gudelis smiles because there will definitely be places for sculptures in the territory of the Bistrampolis mansion, which was not very attractive for the public of the country’s capital.
“Bistrampolis has accepted what the people of Vilnius threw away,” the manager of the mansion smiles and waves at the sculptures that are already outside and awaiting the attention of visitors.
The “Vilnius Butterfly”, which was located in the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and the “Hourglass”, which once also delighted the eyes of the residents of the capital, will now adorn the territory of the mansion near Panevėžys.
“Vilnius residents will have enough pipes with sandy beaches,” smiles a little ironically R. Gudelis.

Almost two dozen sculptures are the highlight of this year’s celebration. On August 1, the sculpture of the sculptor Vladas Kančiauskas “The sword of freedom” will be solemnly presented to commemorate the battles of the 1863 uprising and its participants.
The sculpture consists of three parts: a polished stainless steel sword, a polished granite scabbard, and a polished granite pedestal on which the entire composition is composed.
Vladas Kančiauskas is the author of monumental and decorative sculptures, the founder of the sculpture park in Vilnius “Silence Yard”.
The author himself considers himself a symbolist. Art critic Živilė Ratavičiūtė points out that the sculptor also likes to use metaphors, but the distinctive feature of this author is the tensions that arise in plastic language. The artist creates them by combining different materials, emphasizing not the line, but the line, the color, the reflections and the shadows.
Restores battle emotions
“This day will be really different from the Bistrampoli festival. It started from drive in and fly in Masses, followed by screenings and concerts of the same type. Bistrampol Day will take place exclusively outdoors, where up to 1,000 spectators can finally be invited, ”says the festival organizer.
This year, several dozen members of the Reconstruction Clubs come from Białystok (Poland) to recreate the battle scene of the Battle of Bistrampol.
“Similar performances do not happen very often in Lithuania, because there are no very strong clubs, and in Poland, recreation clubs are a fairly modern element that complements cultural life,” says R. Gudelis.
On Sunday August 2, another historical moment will be restored and Palėvenė Street. In the Dominican parish, the scene of the expulsion of the monks from the monastery to Agluona and Raseiniai will be repeated.
R. Gudelis claims to have noted that all the great battles of 1863 did not take place anywhere else, but in the Panevėžys district, for example, the genetic battles, the battles of Krasakiškis and the battles of Bistrampolis ended successfully, which also they were accompanied by success.
It was to commemorate the historical struggles that it was decided to build the ideological monument “Sword of Liberty”.
Here are the remaining sculptures, mostly decorative.

“At first I thought there would be too many nineteen sculptures, but in the 9-hectare park they are perfectly integrated and seem to disappear without obstructing the main architecture of the mansion,” says R. Gudelis.
According to the festival organizers, the sculptures are more than special, because the marble they are made from comes from all the continents of the world.
R. Gudelis himself does not hide his joy at the new decorations of the mansion and reveals that the most attractive eye is the “Vilnius Butterfly” sculpture perfectly adapted to the stone wall.
It is not just the historical program that awaits the participants of Bistrampol Day. Traditionally, the horse jumping competition “Bistrampolio Taurė” will be organized, in which both the mansion stud farm and horses and riders from all over Lithuania will compete.
The musical program is prepared for the visitors by the Kupiškis folk ensemble “Kupkės”, during the celebration the screening of the documentary “Paberžė – the nest of the disobedient” awaits them.
