The pharmacy network, on its own initiative, has prepared information on what to do in such cases for people over the age of 75 and others who are entitled to free reimbursable medications.
After paying a surcharge for reimbursable drugs purchased at the pharmacy, customers can submit a request to the State Health Insurance Fund (VLK) Drug Reimbursement Department live, in writing, or by email. The divisions of this department operate in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Panevėžys.
To apply for VLK requires an application with a bank account number entered, an ID or a copy of it, a copy of the prescription for which reimbursable medications were purchased, a copy of the receipt from the pharmacy or confirmation by writing from the pharmacy on the premium paid and the person’s consent to the processing of personal data.
Upon submission of all these required documents, the premium paid by VLK must be refunded within 20 business days in accordance with the established procedure.
“As we can see, the premium recovery mechanism for older people and other beneficiaries is not very simple. Especially since a large part of the population in this age group does not have excellent digital literacy skills; in this case, they have to ask their relatives for help to present documents e. by mail, or to go to the VLK branches themselves, ”says the head of Gintarin’s vaistinė.

After the pharmacist enters patient data, e. the system automatically indicates whether the patient is entitled to a refund of the drug premium; if the answer is yes, the patient does not have to pay any premium.
By government decree of July 1. Premiums for reimbursable drugs and medical care are no longer payable for all people age 75 and older who are covered by compulsory health insurance, as well as people who receive a retirement pension and disability if their income (pensions , social benefits, subsidies) are less than 95%. The quantity of minimum consumption needs: expenses necessary to satisfy the minimum human needs per month (food and other goods, services). That amount is now € 257.
According to preliminary estimates, there are around 250,000 people in Lithuania. people who can take advantage of free reimbursable medications.
