Mid-summer and the beginning of the mushroom season delight many people who thirst for the goods that the forest provides. However, at the height of the mushroom season, the number of people lost in the forest and unable to find their way back is increasing. Therefore, every successful life-saving search operation is an important part of a police officer’s job. And each thank you received encourages you to do this task even more responsibly and diligently:
“I sincerely thank the officials of the Telšiai County Chief Police Station, who on July 16. In the evening, he quickly found an honorable old father in the woods, in the Maldeikiai village, Telšiai district. Fortunately , he had a cell phone with him to ask for help to his loved ones. Unfortunately, we could not find him ourselves, so we called the emergency number 112. As soon as the two officers arrived, they rushed to search, they contacted their father in the forest on the phone and they soon found him.
With the family, we thank the professionals who know their work and are indifferent to the misfortune of others. Thanks to them, a father with health problems was able to return home safely.
The son of the lost mushroom Zenon Mockus. “
The police remember:
When you go to the forest, be sure to take your mobile phone with you and also remember to fully charge it.
Don’t go alone to the forest.
Walk at such a distance that they can be seen.
Avoid going to the forest at night.
Protect your life and that of others.
Recently, the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) also spoke about the dangers of fungi and, at the same time, the duties of officials.
“As the berry / mushroom season accelerates, we receive a series of requests to use the plane to search for a person. It is the duty of all of us to protect our loved ones, so we want to tell you how you can do it,” published the SBGS representatives on Facebook, sharing helpful tips.
If you think this will never happen to you or your family, we remind you that even an experienced mushroom / berry grower can get lost. We would like to ask you to present your loved ones with some tips that increase the chances of an error being found:
1. Information for family members: Before going to the forest, inform your family members about the planned duration and location of the mushroom / berry collection.
2. Mobile phone: Pick up a well-charged mobile phone. If we have a connection with you, we will find it easily. Furthermore, based on the fixed signal of the mobile communication towers, the Lithuanian police can determine its preliminary location, thus reducing the search area and increasing the probability of finding it.
3. Bright Clothes: Brightly colored clothes stand out perfectly from the environment and are easily noticeable when looking through the air. We all have shiny vests that reflect the light in the cars that you can take with you when you enter the forest; they don’t take up much space and can save lives if you get lost.
4. Glossy Cube / Bag: It may sound funny, but more than once a person has been found to notice a brightly colored bag or cube.
5. Open area: in case you get lost, you should be in the most open area possible. When you hear a helicopter flying nearby, know you are looking for it!
6. “heat emitting objects”: thermal imaging cameras installed on aircraft, by which the aircraft operator can detect heat emitting objects. So if it’s dark at the time of day, it doesn’t mean we won’t see you. Therefore, you must stay outdoors, and the matches will not only allow you to survive in the wild, but will also help us in your search.
7. Light Sources: For night flights, pilots wear night vision goggles with which they can see quite clearly even the smallest light sources. So even the smallest focus is of great help to you and us.
