Domininkas Armalis, who suffers from coronavirus at the Kaunas Clinical Hospital, disappeared this morning. The man left the room on the ground floor and stood up.
“On the first floor, our isolation room is locked from the outside, but when the window was opened, the patient escaped,” says Saulius Tvirbutas, a representative from the Kaunas Clinical Hospital.
PHOTO GALLERY. Neighbors were concerned about a runaway man and coronavirus who is his neighbor.
The doctors were going to transport the patient to the Abromiškės Rehabilitation Hospital, where all the Covid-19 patients were isolated, only in the form of a mild virus. While the specialists handled the documents and waited for the transport, the patient and fled.
“He was brought in on the 21st with a diagnosis of Covid-19 and placed in the infectious diseases department, today he had to be transferred to an isolation place in Abromiškės, in coordination with the Lazdijai district municipality. Unfortunately, he was missing in his neighborhood ”, says S. Tvirbutas.
The abundant police forces caused access to hospitals, bus and train stations on their feet. All places where the escaped man could hide were checked.
“All the officers, all the active forces working in the city, were immediately informed to pay attention, monitor and search. A cynologist with a dog was also used to find the mentioned man as soon as possible, ”says Odeta Vaitkevičienė, representative of the Kaunas police.
It is already clear that the man carrying the virus from the hospital went directly to the Medical Bank on Donelaičio Street, where he was between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. When he suspected that he might return to Dzūkija, officers from Alytus and Lazdijai also rushed to search for the refugee. The man’s neighbor was afraid of knocking on his door:
“Of fear. I agreed with this, we both went to work for the benefit of both of us. I don’t know where he got infected, where in Kaunas, but what he didn’t do when he returned from Kaunas, no.”
The news that his neighbor, who suffered from a dangerous and contagious disease, fled the hospital shocked the residents of Lazdijai: these words are not wrapped in cotton:
“Oh fool and that’s it.”
“And Jesus, he’s scary here, he doesn’t look at his health or at those around him, at least at those around him.”
“It was necessary to fix it here a while ago, if you have been drinking for half a year, the bathroom is made on the stairs, everyone is choosing, it is scary.”
It turns out that Lazdijai was brought from Dzūkija to Kaunas for treatment on July 15. The tests showed no coronavirus. He was admitted to the Mariai sector of the Kaunas Republican Hospital in Žiegždriai, where patients are treated for mental illness or alcohol-related disorders.
A man from Žiegždriai was released two days later, on July 17, he refused the treatment and, according to doctors, there was no indication of forcing him, he did not pose a threat to society. Then he left the office. The man came out of the hospital on his knees. However, he did not return to Lazdijus.
He is believed to have lived on the street with antisocials for several days. Until July 20, he was taken back to the Kaunas Republican Hospital by car from Piliakalnio Street.
After testing here, Covid-19 was already positive, so they took him to the Kaunas Clinical Hospital from where he fled. A pre-trial investigation into the incident has been launched. Officers detained the fugitive at night.
They noticed him walking in the Lazdijai district near the town of Straigiai. It is believed that he traveled to Dzūkija on passenger cars. Public health professionals are urging everyone who has been in contact with a sick man to respond recently.
