When we visited Skaistė, there were eight dogs of his own at his home. In addition to the three already mentioned, there are Dan, July, Ara, Jerry and North. These are Staffordshire, Belgian and German shepherds and their crosses, the Doberman.

The dogs entered his home in various ways. Bubu Skaistė, for example, took her home in the palm of her hand, still a little small. The former owners, who bought the Staffordshire dog for an unknown person, gave the new owner all the so-called fighting dog ammunition along with the four-legged dog.

“That dog fits in the palm of my hand, but he gave me a tight collar, a one-meter-long chain leash. I threw it away the first day. I never use any strict dog breeding tools, ”says Skaistė.

Almost everyone has lost their homes for one reason or another. S.Svidraitė is seeking temporary care and new hosts for four people.

– Chaste, you say these dogs shouldn’t be called combat. But where does that description come from? A fighting dog, a dangerous dog?

– For a long time. Each breed of dog has its own story. For example, hunting dogs were bred to hunt, pit bulls were used to fight. That’s where it came from.

Only humans do not delve into the fact that dogs that have been able to reproduce have never been able to have an aggression against humans. Then, when they started breeding to fight, the aggressive male dogs were simply destroyed because both the dog’s owners and the judge were standing in the ring. If they were fighting people, then people could not be in the ring.

Staffordshires, bulldogs appeared later, they were also used to send someone. So people who have heard legendary stories, without delving into the real story, into the facts, think so.

Also, the media writes incorrectly. If something happens to a dog of this breed, it will be written that the fighting dog was torn, torn, attacked, bitten, etc. And if the two bottles are cut, no one will write about it.

– But the cases in which such a fighting dog …

– I call them smiling or square-headed.

– But there were cases when – a smiling dog – bitten, right? There were also very painful events.

– There is a dog growing in my house that bit the woman who fed him about a year ago. After the disaster, the two dogs were brought to the shelter. From there, I took it.

That incident was not the dog’s fault. The bottom line is that the owners bought it somewhere in the village, where people keep the dogs tied to the habit and breed them. Those dogs are notorious moths. When they mated, this Belgian Shepherd hybrid was born. He is an energetic dog, and his untapped energy can turn into nonsense.

In my house there is a dog that bit the woman who fed him about a year ago.

There were two dogs in that house, they were not married. They were fed by a woman of respectable age. He was already having a hard time taking care of himself, and he was commissioned two incredibly energetic dogs.

He found her bitten in the yard. A police investigation was launched and the dogs were taken to another shelter. My colleague and I did a review of the dog’s behavior. We had to evaluate how they can adapt and live.

That other dog was already mature and reacted worse to strangers, when he was in the shelter he bit a couple of dogs and was bitten by a man. So that dog fell asleep, and I took this one. It was a young dog, not yet a year old.

– How does this dog behave in your house?

– One of the best dogs. His name is Jerry. He loves swimming, although when he arrived, he did not like it, he remembers without problems. It’s true, he is like that nervous, but he agrees with our other pet, Arus. Aras is their educator. Jerry doesn’t react to people, or dogs if they don’t do anything to him. It does not cause conflict.

– How do you make friends, how do you find the language with those dogs?

– Confidence and a safe environment are important to a dog. If you don’t hurt him, he doesn’t hurt him.

– But if he was raised differently? After all, there is someone who beats the dogs.

– I have a dog that was hit. Yes, it doesn’t let strangers in, it can bite, it can show aggression. But he doesn’t attack me. Sure, it could provoke biting, but my goal is not such.

– And what is your objective?

– For the animal to understand that it is safe for him with me. He has been living with me for two months. Of course I can’t stroke it pack, to love. But go for a walk, run without the leash you can. He knows how to take goodies very well. I dont have a problem with that.

Yes, it is much more difficult to find a home for such a dog because most people are afraid, they do not observe the dog’s body language.

– If a person is looking for a dog that suits his car or training, I will never give a dog like that. I choose people for whom a dog is suitable.

For example, if a person says that he comes too far from Vilnius, then he does not need a dog very much. I ask the future owner to cover the dog chop, castration, vaccination costs. If a few hundred euros seems expensive, it is also a sign.

Dogs let me vaccinate, castrate them so they don’t reproduce. Because there are already too many dogs in the world and too few good people.

– How did you configure the “Puppy Fairy” in general, why do you take care of those dogs? After all, they come in a wide variety of varieties.

– I would call it a way of life, not a refuge. I sponsor them for the same stereotypes: people think badly of them.

Another reason is that, at least in the past, shelters immediately put these dogs to sleep, didn’t even try to find new owners, and didn’t even discover what the dog was.

It is true that the situation in shelters is changing for the better. I saw that happen on my own when I started volunteering at shelters a little earlier. Such dogs are discriminated against, feared only for their appearance. And they are good normal dogs. For me, that inequality seemed unfair, and I decided to take care of them.

– You call “Puppy Fairy” your lifestyle, but is it your main activity? After all, you probably won’t survive from a dog shelter?

– I also look after the dogs when the hosts leave. Shelter and care are hobbies, and work is caring for dogs. I used to drive home with clients, and now the dogs bring me.

– Enough orders?

– During quarantine there was less, and otherwise constantly full. For example, half of the summer has been reserved since April.

– It is said that in a family where children grow up, the best option is a retriever, which is called a family dog ​​that plays with children.

– Sometimes it is said that those dogs that matter to me need a strong owner and a strong hand. But me, being like this does not grow I kept (behind the leashes) three of those dogs at once. They don’t need a strong hand, a strong teacher.

These Staffordshire Terriers dogs are much more suitable for a family than retrievers. They are more tolerant of pain, more patient in character, more receptive to human behavior. Staffordshire is completely dedicated to men, loves children.

– Have you heard the statement that there are dogs whose psyche is unstable?

– People are unstable and dogs don’t get unstable anyway. If there is something wrong with them, they bite: the person is to blame.

– Where do dogs come from, how are they homeless?

– People give up for a variety of reasons. The child was born, goes abroad. All dogs entering the shelter are due to irresponsible breeding. People guess but don’t think the dog needs attention and time.

It also happens that after buying such a dog, the ears were illegally cut somewhere. In the past, when there wasn’t much research, people thought that cutting ears and, for other breeds, tails, protecting dogs from inflammation was somewhat more beneficial. But this has been shown not to be the case, and some people treat animals this way because they are so beautiful.

Neither the tail nor the ear cut are of any benefit to the dog. Even more often it can only get worse. If the ears are severed, the dog can run into the water while bathing.
