Digitization of the National Center for Public Health found 804 unaccounted deaths related to coronavir, the Health Ministry said Tuesday.
According to her, the data was obtained by comparing the October-December statistics from the NVSC and the Records Center.
“It has been estimated that 324 deaths from coronavirus and 480 deaths from other causes were not counted, but the deaths were due to coronavirus,” the ministry said in a statement.
The issue of unaccounted for deaths was discussed during a remote meeting between Health Minister Arūnas Dulkis and NVSC chief Robertas Petraitis on Tuesday.
A. Dulkys directed the NVSC director to submit a detailed written assessment of the situation.
According to NVSC representative Justina Petravičienė, BNS on Tuesday, this could have happened because due to the heavy workload, the medical institution did not provide information about the death to the center or was delayed.
“This means that certain discrepancies were not the fault of NVSC. Non-NVSC diagnoses both death and, for example, recovery, is based on information provided by medical institutions. All information we have received from medical institutions has been compiled by our specialists and we report to the public daily, ”he said.
Discrepancies in the number of deaths between the NVSC and the e-health BNS were reported in mid-December.
According to J. Petravičienė, then the institution made a written request to the Registry Center, requesting to provide data on all deaths from COVID-19 registered in the electronic health system.
“We have received such information. Each case is individual and must be evaluated on its own merits to provide the public with definitive, accurate and clear information. As a result, we are also working with medical institutions. That should be done in the near future,” said one spokesperson for the center.
During the meeting between the Minister and the head of the NVSC, other important aspects of improving the activities of the NVSC were also discussed, related to the process of conducting epidemiological surveys, isolation of people at high risk and adequate allocation of human resources.
According to the Statistics Department on Tuesday, a total of 1,347 people died from coronavirus in Lithuania, and 669 people died from other causes.
