Classic rock fans are seeing red, in a very good way, for the surprise release of a long-lost Rolling Stones song with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page on guitar.
The recently discovered song “Scarlet” was released early Wednesday morning via a lyric video on the band’s official YouTube channel.
“This will be repeated the rest of the summer,” said one commentator.
“The Stones and Page = Match made in heaven,” another chimed in.
“Scarlet”, recorded 47 years ago and originally released as a fall 2020 release, debuted before the rockers reissue “Start Me Up” from the 1973 album “Goats Head Soup” released on September 4. The full LP will include 10 bonus tracks, including two other never-before-heard licks, “Criss Cross” and “All the Rage”.
The old-school jam is named after photographer Scarlet Lilith Page, 49, the ax-hatchet daughter of 76 with French model Charlotte Martin.
“The layered guitar textures of ‘Scarlet’ create a track as infectious and obscene as anything the band has cut in this holy era,” a press release touted the work of the rock page legend.
The new edition of “Goat’s Head Soup”, available to preorder on the Stones’ website, will be released in a set of four albums, with a 120-page book of photos and rare essays, plus four posters, as well as a two-edition album, all offered on vinyl and CD.
The album, best known for the signature ballad “Angie,” initially received mixed reviews, but frontman Mick Jagger was especially proud of the band’s efforts.
“I really feel close to this album, and I really put everything I had on it … I guess it seems like I’m more interested in the songs,” Jagger, 76, said in a statement.
British rock icons, led by Jagger and Keith Richards since 1962, embarked on their No Filter tour this year, but had to postpone the live dates due to the coronavirus pandemic.
