Listen to JAY-Z and Pharrell’s New Song “Entrepreneur”

Pharrell and JAY-Z have released their new song ‘Entrepreneur’. The track arrives as part of Pharrell’s TIID cover package, entitled “The New American Revolution.” The package includes interviews with Tyler, the Creator, Angela Davis, and others, and discusses issues similar to those addressed in the song. For example, Pharrell says on the track: “In this position without choice / The system imprisons young Black boys / Disturbs with white noise.” In addition, JAY-Z reports, “Black Twitter, what is that? When Jack gets paid, do you? Listen to “Entrepreneur” below.

Pharrell told TIID that the song stems from “how difficult it is to start an entrepreneur in our country.” He went on to say, ‘Especially as one of color there are many systemic disadvantages and deliberate blockages. How can you start a fire, or even the hopes of a member to start a fire, if you start with disadvantages regarding health care, education and representation? “

Another part of Pharrell’s package is an article he co-authored with Michael Harriot entitled “America’s Past and Present Are Racist. We Deserve a Black Future.” In the article, Pharrell and Harriot write:

America was founded on a dream of a country where all men were created equal, which contained the promise of freedom and justice for all. But everything was never meant for Black people. Like most Black Americans, I understand that everything exists only in the augmented reality glasses available to shareholders, power brokers, and those lucky enough to enter into the initial public offering. But the ongoing protests for equality and accountability that have taken over cities across the country have made me feel something new that I can only describe in one word: American.

Pharrell and Michael Harriot close their article, ‘America’s Wealth Was Built on the Slave Work of Black People: This Is Our Past. To fulfill the ideals of America, we must rely on a Black vision of the future. ‘ Read the full piece at TIID.

In recent weeks, Pharrell has garnered an Emmy nomination (with Chad Hugo, for her work) The Black Godfather) and consulted with the governor of Virginia to make Juneteenth a public holiday.

In recent months, JAY-Z’s Team Roc has helped bring forward several lawsuits over civil rights issues.
